He apparently tried to get out because he had plans for a giant submarine which would be even more impactful than the atomic bomb.

Yeah. You can't really leave all the pseudo Nazi Glup Shitto collaborators running around if you can help it.

Information on her seems sparse, I found this museum page that struggles to be translated but it does seem to be almost overly favorable to her, that could be an artifact of bad translation though. Either way he was a NatSoc socialite; i.e a spy, so some intrigue in his background is to be expected. He also sidelined her for his mistress, with said mistress getting his estate after he was executed.

He was relatively prominent Collaborator. And a very executable one at that.

What exactly did he do though? It seems he ran the Dutch fascist party and was sort of appointed as a figurehead after the invasion, but had very limited authority and mostly just kicked back in occupied Europe. Compare him to Degrelle, for example, and you begin to see he wasn't a very prominent collaborator at all.

Now that I looked into it, it's weird. I think the N.S.B may have been the Dutch far-right dutch political party closest to the German occupation (excluding niche micro-movements). Mussert was obviously the leader of this party and was, however lukewarmly, endorsed by the nazis. Mussert participated in government though without getting what he wanted, he party's paramilitariy orgs participated in policing operations as auxiliaries, including the deportation of Jews, dispropotionately participated in the occupation government and attempts to integrate the Netherlands into a greater Germanic community, enjoyed a variety of privileges in comparison to the average dutchman. It was also the only legal party in the netherlands for the better part of the occupation. They were also really, really fucking hated. He was, as far as I can tell, a gimp the Germans sidelined whenever they could. But still the face of Dutch collaboration either-way. He even encouraged members to join the actual SS, later on in the war.

Here is an article I found. https://annas-archive.gl/scidb/10.1111/j.1468-229x.1971.tb02122.x/

You know, the Nazis had really garbage collaborators in Western Europe + the Balkans. And in eastern Europe where they had good ones they simply did not collaborate with them.

I'm pretty sure that if Degrelle was not the best one, he was probably on the top five, top ten at most.
>>
The Germans considered him a dork whose organisation was worth more than he himself ever was.
