Thoughts on Odysseus (Ulysses)?

>>18615387The Nolan movie was pretty horrible. Odysseus is merely a victim of circumstances who is also guilt ridden. He feels shame for the Trojan Horse deception and spends the rest of the movie suffering from PTSD and guilt to the point where he self-medicates with the lotus flowers which is treated as opium or something. Several times Odysseus needs to be told to man up by women, this includes Calypso. When Circe turns his men into pigs she gives a very heavy handed feminist tirade about how they were "pigs" there to rape and murder her (even though they confirmed they were there to trade with her and meant her no harm and the logic of the movie emphasis that hospitality is Zeus' Law) Circe even says "back into your disguises" when she turns them back into men implying that the pigs are their true form. GET IT CHUD?! MEN ARE PIGS!Also, there is only one female slave that conspires with the suitors and its made clear that she isnt being coerced but makes the choice on her own and she isnt punished at all. Penelope locks her into the room and says "this is where you belong" as Odysseus goes on his rampage, but we see nothing happen to her. So Odysseus feels guilt over his trickery, he journey is something that happens to him and not something he engages in, and he feels guilt over fighting in the Trojan war. His visions of Athena are revealed to sort of be some sort of vietnam flash back of a civilian woman he saw killed and the gods are not present in the movie, although magic and monsters are. The whole thing sucks and is directionless because theres no point to anything. I guess Nolan turned it into a "why cant we all get along and be nice!?" theme if anything I will say that some of the effects were good, especially liked the cyclops design and sound. Also the soundtrack was really good. Some of the performances were great as well, but the costumes sucked and were soulless. Agamemnon was horribly miscasted and he looked like batman
