I've said it before on this board and I'll say it again. Robespierre was completely in the right UNTIL he went after Danton at which point yeah he went kinda nuts. But the terror itself was justified. The Girondins vowed to trigger revolts in the provinces and destroy the revolution from within. The infernal columns were pretty fucking evil but I wouldn't lay the blame entirely on Robespierre for that. It was an emergency and some terror was necessary, both to stop enemies from within (of which there were many) and stop the true radical weirdos in Parisian street mobs from fucking everything up because they wanted more free shit.
