The 1936–1939 war saw the Palestinians at their peak strength. Their most competent leaders and many of their bravest fighters were killed in this conflict and the survivors neutered to such a degree that the Palestinian strength in 1948 was downright pitiful. The Zionists overwhelmingly outnumbered and outgunned the Palestinians in 1948, and even outnumbered and outgunned the combined intervening Arab forces. Not to mention that none of the Arab states were truly committed to a pitched fight (except maybe Egypt)While 1936–1939 was a war, 1948 was more of a genocide or crime against humanity with an element of a Phony War.
