Why is Swedish history so underwhelming, so lacking in great figures and landmark achievements compared to Portugal?
One would think that a nation populated by the nordic master race would do better than a southern brown nation of similar size, yet it blatantly didn't, why is it?

How is portuguese history greater than swedish? Sweden was an european great power for a while (a status that Portugal never achieved) and produced a lot of great scientists, authors, inventors. With Gustav Adolf, it played a central role in starting modern warfare. Who did Portugal produce, apart from some navigators? Sorry, dominating some tribes with sticks doesn't bring you a lot of glory. Look at any book about science, literature, technology, there will be Swedish names in there. Portuguese, rather not.
>>
>>18626236
Must be bait, Sweden is arguably more successful even at football. Swedes have been punching way above their weight in science an Sweden is like a hundred years ahead Portugal in development. I can't think of any Portuguese achievement apart from creating the abomination of Brazil, and even then Swedes beat them to the Americas.
>>

SIUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
also you posted this a week ago

Sweden was only a regional power which dominated the Baltic Sea at most.
Meanwhile Portugal was a global power which dominated the Indian OCEAN. They not only spearheaded the Discovery Age which is the most relevant period in history on pair with the Industrial Revolution and Space Age but they also cucked several powerful nations like the Ottomans on the way. In 2000 years space explorers will look up to the Portuguese explorers as an inspiration but no one will remember Swedish scientists. They didn’t invent anything which changed the course of history in the same way the Portuguese did with their maritime tools and navigation science.
You would have a point if Sweden produced household names like Galileo or Newton in science or Mozart and Van Gogh in arts but nope. Nobel is only famous because of the awards and he didn’t even discover the only thing he’s famous for, it was some Italian who
discovered nitroglycerin.
>>
>>18627506
Sweden doesn't have as much scientific or power achievement as France, England or the HRE but he still has a point. Dominating some 65IQ savages with wooden sticks isn't impressive. Cortes was able to topple their most "impressive" empire with a few hundred men.

And Spain and England mostly dominated the New World. Portugal is most definitely overrated. Sweden wins

>>18627220
>Sweden was an european great power for a while (a status that Portugal never achieved)
Are you even trying?
>>18627520
Portugal managed to rival England and Spain for a while with a much smaller population, not to mention that they were the original colonial power
>>
>>18627269
>and even then Swedes beat them to the Americas
Swedes never went to americas, that was the Norwegians and Icelandic, but pretending overall that the Viking landing in America is anything but an extremely anecdotical footnote show a lack of basic historical literacy.
But it's not only that, Portuguese are not even know and credited for discovering the America, this is something attributed to Spain, two of the three biggest Portuguese explorers have nothing to do with America and the only one who does, Magellan, is only in a secondary and anecdotical matter
>>18627281
And I will continue posting it. This kind of thread are great at exposing the Nordicists historical illiteracy and dishonesty, and overall low IQ. Turn out that these people genuinely can't discuss history when it's not about pretending that the Pharaoh and Alexander the Great had blond hairs and blue eyes.

My point is that colonialism isn't actually that impressive. Conquering Africans or Natives is very easy if you hold power in Europe.
Sweden has generally had more impact on continental Europe than Portugal has.
I'm not saying Portugal is some dogshit country with no history though. I agree for a time they were extremely powerful and dominant but still Sweden wins here
>>
>>18627688
>Conquering Africans or Natives is very easy
Portugal did a little more than just conquering africans or redskins, that almost a secondary sidequest to their colonial entreprises.
>Sweden has generally had more impact on continental Europe than Portugal has.
No it hasn't. Even if we look at Portugal records against European states, they won wars against the Spanish, the French, the Dutch, the Ottomans... Sweden only defeated an unimpressive HRE in the 30 years war, invaded Poland where it was at a low point and failed against Russia and that's it. Not only Portugal has a much better outside europe but also within it.
>>
The fact that people focus so much on muh blacks and natives or on muh Brazil show how little they understand and know not only about Portugal but also this period in general
They probably think Vasco da Gama is famous for discovering Brazil
No wonder the same people think the Viking discovered America before Columbus, utter lack of historical literacy and of the basic understanding of why some events matter more than some others
>>
>>18627831
I guess that's true the HRE was deeply decentralized so that win is overrated.
Sweden still wins on scientific discovery though
>>
This is unrelated to the question of who had a greater history, but people should remember that the world is not a paradox interactive game and civilization does not progress by putting points into a technology tree.
If the Portuguese aristocracy made impressive accomplishments in the 16th century, and has faded since then, while the Swedes did not arrive on the world stage since the 18th century, that does not make them tied. That does not mean they've made progressed the same, but at different times.

The extreme example is Iraq. Iraq jumped out to a huge lead in the civilizational race 7000 years ago by piling up a bunch of dusty bricks in an alluvial plain and digging canals to control the floods. It may seem like an obvious point, but that does not in any way imply that Iraq now has a bunch of progress saved up that they can build on to catch up with everyone else. Their flower has wilted and will never grow back, ever.

Nobody I think debated that Sweden has impacted more the history of science than Portugal did but Portugal is historically more relevant, overall
>>
What good has Portugal done to balance out Brazil
>>
In the yet extremely northern european and protestant biased British historical documentary series The Triumph of the West Portugal had one of the 13 episodes almost entirely dedicated to it while the number of times Sweden was mentionned throughout the whole show can almost be counted on one hand.
This is only a debate for butthurt and delusional nordicists I'm afraid.

>>
>Beresford quickly overhauled the Portuguese forces, bringing them in line with British discipline and organization, and from the General Headquarters, he dispatched many "daily orders" altering points of the infantry ordnance, creating a general command of artillery, establishing the separation of the battalions, firing incompetent or corrupt officers and promoting or appointing appropriate replacements.
>After peace was declared he went to England on leave and came back again to Lisbon to reassume the command of the Portuguese Army. He did not limit himself, however, to that role, and intended to intervene in the general politics of the country, from this he came into conflict with the Regency. He then determined to go to the Court in Rio de Janeiro. He departed there in August 1815 and returned in September 1816, invested with wider powers than the ones which he had previously enjoyed.

this is exactly what I mean, you learned about history from /his/ memes. Disraeli was a Christian imperialist conservative who fought against the liberals of his day to expand the borders of the British empire to previously unforeseen dimensions.
He did the exact same fucking thing that you think it's so amazing that Portugal did, he expanded colonization.
>>
>>18628018
Still don't get how the two are related. It makes sense in the Nazi example since they considered themselves racially superior to the Italians. Portuguese don't consider themselves superior to the English. If anything, they only consider themselves culturally superior to the Spanish

>The Nairs were making their way to launch a surprise attack on the ford from the rear, when some local Cochinese peasants working in the rice fields, plucked up their courage and attacked the detachment with their spades, seeing them off rather quickly. Allegedly, the Indian caste system played a significant role, the Nairs fearing defilement by low caste peasants more than any injury from the agricultural implements they were wielding. Pacheco, disgusted with his own Cochinese Nairs, is said to have tried to persuade the Trimumpara Raja to promote these brave peasants to Nairs and assign them to the palisade. The King gave him a lengthy lecture on the intricacies of the caste system.

First, Portugal was the nation which developed the maritime science to reach those places. The other colonial powers learnt everything from them and foreigner explorers moved there to learn about navigation.
Second, it was the English and Spanish which dealt with savages carrying wooden sticks. Portugal had to deal with powers in the Indian Ocean which were on pair with European powers at the time: Mamluk Sultanate, Ottoman Empire, Indian kingdoms like Calicut and Gujarat (which were at their peak btw, not like when the UK conquered them), Malacca Sultanate, Ming Dynasty, etc.
Portugal not only had to deal with them but sometimes even with alliances between them and they still succeed. In some cases they were kicked out eventually, for instance by Oman which became a maritime superpower rivalling the UK during the 17th and 18th century. That’s the type of power Portugal had to deal with.

Sweden was large and sparsely populated with alot of hostile neighbours and no Atlantic coastline.
Portugal was relatively small and densely populated with only one neighbour that they were on very good terms with, and with the closest pathway to the Indies in all of Europe.
Why one stayed at home while the other could put all their efforts into conquering defenceless thirdies should be extremely obvious.
