I know they let some Christians into high positions and needed them to be rich to get money from the taxes and they had arrangements with local aristocracy and clergy in the Balkans and many of them pimped their daughters and sons for a career in the Imperial admnistration or harem. But didn't they feel pride? Religion was supposed to be an important part of life, so how come they would let their children leave and be raised as muslim enforcers of turks? How come there were not more Skanderbergs and Draculas? How did it last so long? Did the people that served under the Ottomans hate each other so much that they could never make a proper resistance movement to get rid of this empire of psychopaths?At least the colonial empires had a bigger technology gap between the rulers and the people oppressed, which explains some things. And those empires only truly lasted as an empire like that for less than 200 years.
