Does ADHD actually exist out of lifestyle/behavioral pattern contexts?By that I mean I'm sure ADHD symptoms exist, but would they persist if the guy with them adopted a healthier lifestyle with a ton of outdoor exercise?
>>18629368The prefrontal cortex has high energy demands and ADHD manifests when its metabolic rate cannot be maintained at a high level. That is why stimulants are prescribed by doctors to treat ADHD. Exercise only helps inasmuch as it improves systemic health, meaning there is no direct effect on ADHD. What has actually helped in studies is T3, the active thyroid hormone. In that case, there is probably also some correlation between iodine deficiency and ADHD, but poor thyroid function can also happen even when iodine levels are sufficient.
Yes, it has a very strong genetic component. Calling it a disorder and treating it in such and such a way is debatable, but the fact that some people have the endophenotype of "little attention for uninteresting things, lots of attention for interesting things" is not debatable
>>18629728>but the fact that some people have the endophenotype of "little attention for uninteresting things, lots of attention for interesting things" is not debatableYeah, it's called being human
The more time passes the more I'm convinced old people who said "he's just lazy" were right.Of course if you fry your brain doomscrolling shorts for 12 hours straight you're going to have a completely fucked attention span, it's not "adhd" and no "diagnosis" will change that. Stolen valor for people who actually struggle with disabilities.
90% of it is just low iq + marijuana abuse. I can’t tell you the number of retards I know who blast vyvanse and smoke week every week.
>>18629368I'm sure sweet class presidents with ADHD exist.
>>18629368Believe or not it is caused by wicked spirits.
>>18629728So it's true that people with ADHD show more interest in things they find interesting than people without ADHD?
Why not just try “stop smoking weed”? See if that cures your “adhd”?
>>18629880shrooms actually cure your ADHD while you're high its so true
I'm a complete stoner and I do not have ADHD, and trust me, I know people with clinical ADHD, it aint me, so anyone armchair physicians saying weed causes ADHD, stop eating misinformation from podcastslop and maybe kill yourselves
Grok, what effect does marijuana abuse have on cognitive function and attention span?
>>18629890Shrooms are psychedelic which come from the Greek demon Psyche.
>>18629900elaborate
>>18629901It opens doors to the spirit world for demons and unclean spirits to enter. Demons masquerade as beings of light. They don't always look demonic.
I still cannot fathom how a generation of men were convinced to get addicted to a drug that says “will make you retarded and gay” on the label… by Seth Rogan comedies.
>>18629909No man it's really good shit for anhedonia
Where did all of this talk about weed come from? You guys do realize that ADHD is usually encountered and diagnosed in pediatric settings, right? And that apathy and laziness are different from genuine executive dysfunction?
>>18629958When you all develop cripplingly low levels of dopamine in your old age and stay bedridden for days, unable to find the motivation to swing your legs off of the bed, you'll understand what I mean by "genuine executive dysfunction". It's not "I can't sit and take three-hour exams", it's "I can't take a shower or procure food for myself"
>>18629964NTA but are amphetamines really the only fix, I don't doubt some people have an actual deficiency and need medicine.
>>18630013Pretty much, yeah. There are non-amphetamine meds like bupropion that work, but they're much less effective
>>18630062Are you talking about for anhedonia or for ADHD?
>>18630092Anhedonia is a symptom of diseases that dysregulate dopamine, so ADHD, schizophrenia, schizoaffective and other lower-level schizo-spectrum disorders, even OCD and bipolar in severe cases
ADHD exists but it isn't really a problem. It's just an excuse to medicate people and make them docile.
>>18630127I have ADD, OCD and Anhedonia, what meds specifically did you say you recommended? I've heard great things about bupropion though
>>18630181(Not him) Try T3, B vitamins, and methylene blue for ADD. Glycine for OCD.
>>18630264Thanks Anon, I'll look into it right now
>>18630181If you actually have ADHD/OCD you should see a doctor for medication opinions. 4chan is not going to answer your questions on this topic. Also do not start drinking methylene blue. It's a MAOI; if you've read a bunch of anecdotes about how it works so well and are fully convinced, ask your doctor for some Parnate or something. Exact same mechanism of action, plus we know for certain (because it's been around for sixty years) what dosages are indicated for what issues. With methylene blue, there aren't any real guidelines and people usually end up taking too little or too much (which can kill you if you're stupid)
>>18630357I mostly care about fixing anhedonia. I've lived a perfectly happy life with ADHD and OCD but my life is ruined now with anhedonia
>>18630357What is the point in fear mongering about methylene blue? Just keep the dose low, like 2-3 drops. The stuff is harmless unless you're inherently a danger to yourself.
>>18630394Disregarding use of stimulants, the #1 thing I would recommend you, from one anhedonia sufferer to another, is some kind of therapy where you can work on seeing yourself and the world in a more positive light. And of course the usual things. Eat healthy, exercise, meditate, etc. It may not do anything, but it's better to try than not to try>>18630400I'm not trying to fearmonger, it's just hard to dose correctly. MAOIs also requires a special diet and tend to have a higher side effect profile than, say, bupropion, so it's worth talking to a doctor about the pros and cons
What the heck is this thread??
>>18631084>thread about mental illness>surprised when everyone in said thread is mentally ill and completely off-base

>>18629368Modern education is torture for many children, but in the past they suppressed the consequences with strict discipline and cultural mores. The dopamine laden distractions weren't as powerful yet either.>>18629736It far predates doomscrolling, the biggest surge was in the late 80s / early 90s. And it's the most active and outdoors-loving kids that are the most likely to get diagnosed. Forcing an energetic kid to wake up early, sit in a dreary classroom all day and "behave" will send them running to much less healthy forms of stimulation. Worth noting it's far more prevalent in boys than girls, the reasons why should be obvious.
>>18631758> Worth noting it's far more prevalent in boys than girls, the reasons why should be obvious.Much higher rates of marijuana abuse?
>>18631758>>18629736The internet is definitely a factor though, it may not be the primary cause but it does enable people who are clearly psychologically unwell like this guy >>18631616 It's difficult to help retards like him because on a superficial level they're validated by the veracity of their sources but where it becomes problematic is when they start link farming, then it becomes an unhealthy obsession, and it's exacerbated because people who do this tend to also have very poor information parsing and general communication skills. "Doomscrolling" is another manifestation of this phenomenon. Before the internet it was referred to as "Mean World Syndrome" which is more focused on news headlines but we see a similar phenomenon happening on social media through an unhealthy level of headline farming
Why is marijuana cessation off the table? I thought it wasn’t addictive?
>>18631837What exactly caused people to bring up weed in the first place?
