Why did so many countries turned to communism before the collapse of the soviet union but not a single one did after it collapsed? If these revolutions were happening because values, what changed?
Also will it happen to same with democracy once the US collapses?

wikipedia says there's only 5 communist countries, they've been the same since 1992, and none of those are in the list

also, nepal is a democracy

If it weren't for support from the Soviet Union, a Fidel Castro would likely be considered just another dictator instead of a communist.

Is it worth openly declaring yourself a communist country and exposing yourself to USA sanctions instead of remaining a mere dictatorship?

That’s wrong. Marxism Leninism was at the core of his ideology. Upon coming to power, he nationalised all the industry that had been owned by international corporations and foreign billionaires. That was the key reason why the US hated him.

Ummm Donetsk People’s Repunlic and Lukhansk Republic? Until 2022 at least when they just were eaten up by Russia.

“Donetsk Republic” was an independent socialist breakaway state that defacto was indepdent before Russia invaded Ukraine to defend them.

DPR was nominally a “Soviet” Repunlic in official documentation and people were often paid in food vouchers. People used both Russian and Ukraine currency for many years. By 2022 the plan of DPR as an independent communist state was abandoned by Denis Pushilin and it just became another oblast of Russia.
