All those other guys just made mechanical and electromechanical computers with limited application

What set the ENIAC apart, aside from being fully electronic, was that it was immediately put to work on the calculation and printing of range tables, work which was traditionally done by hand, and proved instrumental for artillery gunners during the second world war. This ballistics computer DNA found its way into missile control systems and eventually in rocket guidance computers during the Gemini and Apollo Programs and even to some degree the Donner Model 30 Analog computer where it ran what many consider the first videogame, Tennis for Two. It's a fascinating lineage
