Rome deserves all the modern thought that goes into it. Its legacy will last another 25,000 years. It was far from perfect, and was probably evil in many ways, and we don't really have a good grasp of how it was - the study of the Republic and the Empire was more of a study of a long line of powerful men than any sort of everyday life, but it was also necessary. Rome set an example of true civilization. Rome was post-tribal life. Rome was the light, even if getting on its bad side meant being genocided.

Rome taught people the difference between leaders and followers and was an amazing demonstration of the study of and application of psychology.

Rome should be learned from - it has just as many examples of what not to as it does of what to do in being an empire. It's interesting how the US reflects Rome's litigious legacy more than almost anything else. Attorneys ran Rome, and attorneys run the US.

Rome is a demonstration that humanity has had many industrial revolutions, not just one.

Rome produced the greatest art the world has ever seen to this day. Whether the sculptures were painted or just grey rock, that stuff is iconic and gorgeous and will never be equaled. Celebrating heroes is good even if there are no true heroes.

All metropolitan areas are by nature shitholes unless ruled by brutal authoritarians. They are melting pots for the least valuable people in a country.

Nothing wrong with shitting on metro area shitholes, but I have never seen one cleaned up. But I haven't been to Singapore.

You probably took his words out of context or something

Juba II was adopted by Caesar before Octavian was.
Strabo compiled the final rendition/last edits of his "Geōgraphiká" after receiving words of Juba II's death in 23ad, which he referenced in the document. They were contemporaries and probably friends due to being close with the Julio-Claudians, having similar interests and travelroutes.
Had we not known the differing names and birthdates of these two, one might've even assumed Strabo to be Juba II's scholarly alias, or vice versa. Strabo is assumed to have died one year after, in 24ad aged 87,- 15 years the senior of Juba II.
Pliny the Younger also quotes Juba II over 50 times in his natural histories.
tldr;
"Rex Literatissimus" wasn't the nickname of Juba II for no reason.

What is stopping you guys from dripping out like Nero here?

Rome was an empire long before Augustus. It had a Republican government trying to rule an empire. This is the true genius of Augustus, his Principate model is what saved the empire, not what created it.

His fallout with Seneca was the downfall of his reign.
