One thing that's absolutely undeniable about Neanderthals is that they diverged massively in behavior; They'd even struggle to exist in the areas many other "primitive" minorities thrive in today, having been less social, lacking some artistic ability, lacking alleles related to verbal language, and having had their intelligence *extremely* skewed towards visuospatial ability.

Regardless, we already drove them to extinction for reasons that are especially true today (larger populations, better technology, etc). There's no world in which they wouldn't be at our mercy.

It really dosen't matter if we or they were smarter, stronger and so on. The reason why is because you can imagine humans that are those things that still have rights. For example, a comatose elderly person or a baby. They have the advantage of being autonomous those usually aren't even.
