If God didn't want people to eat from the tree of knowledge, why did He put an evil talking snake in the garden to convince people to eat from the tree of knowledge? Is God retarded?

I beg you to be afraid of speaking against God. The Mighty One is slow to anger but when his anger burns the devil runs away and hides.
>>
There are two possibile answers. Either God is not Omnibenevolent/omniscient/omnipotent and can make mistakes too, which is the philosophically more straightforward answers but really puts off believers for some reason. But the more popular answer among the faithful is that it is our fault anyway, because God sets the rules and decided that him forgiving us is more kino than just letting us live in peace. Believers seem to like this even if it makes God ironically seem like an absolute sociopath

>he is slow to anger
seeing as how some kids calling a guy he liked a baldy was enough for him to send bears after them, I really doubt he is that slow to anger
>>
>>18642070
reasonable crashout
when a baldcel speaks childshits have to be silent period
>>
There would be no plot if humanity lived in a perfect paradise with no problems. God was bored so he made us suffer for his entertainment.

Look, I'd fear the Abrahamic God if I had any reason to believe He existed. But I don't, so I don't.

If God preferred that humans come to Him of their own free will, why didn't he create them with free will? Why did the talking snake episode have to happen? Why did God get angry at and curse Adam, Eve, and the snake if they were merely acting in accordance with His plan?
>>

I don't know if you could tell from my tone, but I think the best resolution to the problem of evil is to strip God of omnipotence and omniscience, and instead give him a character arc where he starts out as a bumbling jerk but slowly starts trying to actually do the right thing instead of just being a more powerful version of Satan.

No, I understood your post. I wasn't really asking you, just posing the question so that others could answer. I know there are millennia of Abrahamic apologetics that attempt to answer for these inconsistencies and I was hoping someone would provide a cogent response.
I agree with your point, though. The God of Genesis 2:4-4:15 doesn't seem like an omnipotent, omniscient deity at all, more like a powerful spirit as conceived of by, say, late Bronze Age nomads.
>>
The thing I don’t get is the idea that God thinks you deserve to burn alive for all eternity because your ancient ancestors ate an apple.
>>
Relatee question:
Did the serpent have free will?
>>

Don't know. If you have a penis why do you insist that you're a woman and that your ass is a pussy? Are you retarded?

curious!

Cute snek
>>
>>18642058

God put a tree in Eden where Adam and Eve were and got mad that they ate from it despite God being literally omniscient and knowing that they would eat from that tree before he even told them not to eat it, there's also the fact that eating from the tree didn't actually kill Adam and Eve, so God lied to them, it was God kicking Adam and Eve out of Eden that actually killed them. It would be like lying to a child that eating from the cookie jar will kill them, they eat from the cookie jar, then you murder them and falsely blaming that child for you murdering them.

Such a 'god' would not be worthy worship, they would be less powerful than the Greek pantheon.

Genesis uses ancient Near Eastern mythic/literary conventions. The Catechism explicitly says: “The account of the fall in Genesis 3 uses figurative language”. Talking snek could be whatever. Perhaps we all have a talking snek to enable wider freedom of will vs always choosing good.

>The account of the fall in Genesis 3 uses figurative language”.
Does the Catholic Church really think that Adam and Eve existed and they were kicked out of Eden?
>>
>>18642899
See above
>>
>>18642058
God didn’t create the evil talking snake, he (Satan) rebelled against God in heaven before coming to earth to deceive man.
>>
>>18642058
There's many parts of the Old Testament which I agree it's copium to try and justify as allegories, but it's quite obvious that Genesis is heavily symbolic.
>>
>>18643009
Yes or no answer, "genesis uses figurative language" does that mean the Catholic church belives the entire story to be a myth?
>>
>>18642058
Plot twist: We were always meant to eat from the tree.
>>
>>18642058
How can a true third person omniscient narrative exist independent of or contradicting the will of the narrator? The story goes however the author decides it goes.
>>
>>18642058
Free will.
