Just a bunch of disgruntled Catholics.

In fact, we're pagans or atheists here. Nobody here believes in those Jewish fairy tales. Some are converting to Hinduism, an Aryan religion.

>Nobody here believes in those Jewish fairy tales.
It's evident you care more about the "Jewish" than the "fairy tales." I don't know why you even bother using that as an insult when you are happy to believe, sometimes literal, fairy tales.

Here's a redpill - there's no such thing as an Orthodox 'convert.' That's not how real orthodoxy works. Eastern Orthodox churches were traditionally parochial institutions which used 'Old Church Slavonic' plus the local languages of their areas.

So, if you were born in a Serbian-speaking village in Austria-Hungary, you would be part of the Serbian Orthodox church. This church's older/more formal liturgical texts would mostly be in Old Church Slavonic, while more day-to-day stuff would be in Serbian.

The notion of an English-speaking Eastern Orthodox church is kind of silly at its core. It's a synthetic construct rather than an actual rooted institution, aside from any theology. That's why it seems kind of 'off' or fake in the modern American context.

Real orthodoxy requires that you be born into the faith as part of a community of other orthodox believers who speak a traditional orthodox language. Otherwise, you're just a LARPer. My own personal theology is perfectly consistent with all of this - it's a kind of group-based determinism in which specific theological 'instantiations' are available to discrete groupings, but not generally to those beyond the scope of the group. This corresponds to various forms of math in which numerous sets are co-extant but non-overlapping in terms of analytical description.

Lifelong Ortho here. The Church is a spiritual hospital to heal the sick. So naturally, I'm used to seeing all kinds of people at the Church and hear all kinds of narratives and approaches. Some are pursuing a Th.D. and want to revolutionize textual criticism, some are mystically flavored, some are your run-of-the-mill babushkas who compete with other countries' babushkas in who can dramatize their country's suffering the greatest. With all that, some Western converts still managed to surprise me ... we've had a German who said the EU is the Soviet union with a different name all while simping for Russia and their actual Soviet legacy. We've had an ultra-cerebral misadapted Canadian who lived and breathed muh'logic while barely being able to interpret basic text... and we've had some genuinely cool guys from America and some other countries too.

From what I've seen, Orthodoxy is very unwelcoming to outsiders (for some reason Serbian clergy especially), so from the pool of people looking for a denomination, the calmer and more easy-going types will often find somewhere they are received a little better. I think if we standardized a catechism and stopped looking at foreigners in our Churches as though they're aliens coming to probe us, Western converts would fix their reputation soon.

Complete BS. That ecclesiastic administrative processes handle people born into faith much smoother than people converting to faith isn't a requirement from Orthodoxy itself, it's a shortcoming of churches that for centuries dealt with 99.9% local cases.
>>
>>18648449
That's an administrative issue. I don't regard that as significant. I am looking as 'conversion' as a psycho-spiritual issue.
>>
>>18648452
If you'll grant me for a second the idea that Christ preached what we today know as Orthodoxy... are you saying that all the Apostles, having attained belief throughout their lives, were less Orthodox than Yuri Vasilevich, a plumber from Sochi who happened to be born into the Church? What exactly is the psycho-spiritual issue?
>>
>>18648456
Christianity in toto is a kind of naturally closed loop. Its natural extent is already epistemically fixed. Epistemic closure and 'fixity' has come about due to the emergence of technological postmodernity.

Jordan Peterson-tier psuedo-intellectual word salad and contrarianism
Christianity is pretty plainly about evangelizing and converting people into the faith regardless of background, this is very plainly stated in the gospels by Jesus Christ himself
>Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost
Christianity is like THE one religion that is not ethnically or culturally fixed. The fact that Eastern Orthodoxy *did* become like this however is a major problem for it and a major point not in its favor.
>True Christianity is when nice social feelings and cultural rituals and is about the culture and rituals itself and not the gospel
lolno

Ok, and? So what if he does.
>>
>>18648467
It is not epistemically fixed whatsoever, Love in general and God of love in particular is infinite disclosure. Cut it out, fella.

So nothing. Just making an observation.

Buddhism isn't ethnically or cultually fixed, and it's 500 years older than Christianity.
>>
>>18648942
>Buddhism isn't ethnically or cultually fixed
it is, westerners simply mistakenly believe it isn't and think their Californian lite yoga/weed-smoking hippie version of it is actual Buddhism. It is a deeply East Asian religion/worldview and deeply entrenched in the cultural and geographical region it comes from. Western mindsets, philosophy and ways of looking at the world and the self are deeply incompatible with it and western 'Buddhism' is just orientalist LARP
Christianity, however, is not like this. Orthodox trying to make Christinaity like this and obsessing over the Eastern aspect of it and touting it as some fundamentally Eastern and mystical new way of looking at the world that westerners 'just don't get' is also orientalist LARP

Are you perhaps mistaking Abrahamism with Western philosophy? Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates had more in common with Buddha than any of the Abrahamic false prophets. Plato literally believed in reincarnation.
>>

The west has been Abrahamic for longer than it has been pagan at this point. You lost. You are never getting the glory days back. All your gods are dead, their worshippers are bones and their temples are dust. We are never going back to the human sacrifices in wickermen, pouring blood for stone statues and worshipping the sun and rain like monkeys. It's over.
>muh Buddhism is when reincarnation
lolno
>Plato, Aristotle, and Socrates had more in common with Buddha
they didn't believe in the transience of all things, that the self is an illusion, that suffering was an illusion or in hivemind collectivism and humans being interchangeable with animals and nature, and total subservience to your station in life so no

Catholicism in the modern day is also LARP given that pretty much all TradCaths, yes all of them, are basically picrel

1500 years of Christianity is nothing compared to 200,000 years of paganism

Animism is not a real thing, there was only paganism
