Isn't that kind of like asking why Western Europe had "Civil Wars,"? If they're different kingdoms, then aren't they different countries?
>>
>>18651939
Because they have the same culture and language. Germans arent celts. A person from Kaifeng or a person from Hangzhou both read and write the same language and had the same customs and more often than not, answered to the same government

Do you know how many civil wars the Roman empire had?
>>
>>18651944
Most Chinese under unified Chinese couldn't understand each other verbally but could through written text. You could make an argument for all the different Romance languages or a post-Rome Europe.

>If they're different kingdoms, then aren't they different countries?

1) Nope. After unification under the Qin Dynasty, these "Kingdoms" were just feudal titles enfeoffed to loyal & noteworthy vassals of an Emperor. The lowest rank you could get was Nan (Baron), the highest was Wang (King or Prince), and there were only like 9 or 7 of these ranks available & based off the pre-unification Chinese Kingdoms (Wei, Wu, Shu, Zhou, Liang, Qi, Yan, Song, Chu, and sometimes Yue). The most powerful mfers tend to get these titles so when an Imperial Dynasty declines & breaks apart, these cunts stood best in line to battle for no. 1 spot, naming their dynasty after their royal titles.

2) All of these warring dynasties consider the other as illegitimate and a threat towards their ambitions of ruling the Empire, and all sought the elimination of each other until one actually rules over the realm.

It's so weird how certain 4chan boards with /his/ in particular has been taken over by clueless luddites.
The huge AI demand is driving memory and compute prices like never before.
Anthropic will likely have one of the most valuable IPOs in history.
Everyone from Terrence Tao to Donald Knuth to Linus Torvalds has admitted how AI has completely exceeded their expectations in what it can do, to the point they can't explain it.
GPT 5.6 sol has solved math problems humans failed to for decades.
Every SWE now has a Claude code, codex or Kimi subscription.
Academia has completely changed in the last 3 years due to AI tools.
Every major country is investing billions into AI. Like Japan is investing billions into it because they realized they failed to catch the first wave, and see it as a matter of national survival.
You are completely clueless on how much AI has already penetrated much of the world, because you don't have a real job. You still want to deny reality.

But let's say it's just like the dotcom bubble. Since that one burst - surely it means the Internet actually doesn't have any value, and is utterly useless for any serious business. The internet can't possibly be bigger today than in 2000 at the peak of dotcom right?
>>

It's ironic you bring up chess, a game that has been conquered by pre-LLM era Monte Carlo search tree AI. Obviously that AI research has nothing to do with the uzbeks or any other turkic race.

Krugman was right about the internet, the real economy has been stagnant at best for at least 30 years now.
>>
>>18652089
>real economy
I've learned to not take seriously anyone who uses this phrase.
When you pay 10x more for an apple iPhone than some no name phone, or 100x more for a gucci handbag than an identical no brand handbag that came from the same factory - you are not paying for anything material, you are paying for the brand value. The brand is what fetches demand because it carries the trust and status associated with it. Now, marketing contributes to brand value, but that's because high value marketing is tightly correlated with high quality companies run by high trust first worlders, so we look for it as a signal that a brand is good value.
Much of the economy is people paying extra for trust - that's the value. And it's captured by a bunch of intangible things you might consider to be the "fake" economy. Things like management, HR, marketing, sales, legal, QC, ops.
If you just open up a random factory today to masss produce a bunch of no brand widgets - they will all be worthless because even beggars will ignore them. That's your "real economy".
>>
>>18652096
All you did was detail the structure of the fake economy - the 80% service and finance economy. You appeal to this structure as the proof of its real value, but it's all wrong.
Productivity is increased when a unit of something can be produced and/or supplied cheaper for the same time or faster for the same cost, and as I already said, the introduction of the humble shipping container has still improved productivity more than AI has so far.
>>
>>18652109
>You appeal to this structure as the proof of its real value, but it's all wrong.
What is "real" value?
Value is the price something fetches on the market based on supply and demand, and the demand is impacted by branding and marketing. The value of something is not, and never will be, the fixed cost of labor and materials put into it (LVT).
You seem to hold the debunked Marxist understanding of this simple concept.
If you could pick between 2 cars, one is a Honda civic and the other is a brand you don't know, but costs 1/5 the price - which one are you going with? If I told you that they both cost the same to make - would that change your mind?
>>
>>18652109
>the introduction of the humble shipping container has still improved productivity more than AI has so far.
This is a different issue, but I will contest this. AI has greatly accelerated learning, research, software development, marketing, and countless other industries. It's also changed warfare, since it's already naturally integrated into modern C4ISR - we know the DoW has contracts with openAI and Google. (Look into the first gulf war to see how much computers changed the battlefield back in 1990). Its long term impact is far greater than the shipping container in either productivity, creativity or lethality.
>>
>>18652109
>All you did was detail the structure of the fake economy - the 80% service and finance economy
Why is finance "fake"?
If I want to make money by investing, I can either try deciding myself what shares to buy, or I can ask someone with the institutional experience and theoretical knowledge of investing to do it for me, for a small enough fee. He pockets the fee and puts my money where he sees fit. If I end up making money with his decisions, I am satisfied with his service and continue paying him to manage my finances.
In what way is his service not providing me value, in what way is it "fake"? Is it the case that you don't understand it, or that you don't like people who work in it?
>>
>>18652114
What is "supply"? Everything I have described to you. Oh yes, the time and cost to produce and supply something is in fact factored in its value.
>>
>>18652133
I'm pointing out that price is p = f(supply, demand), are you claiming p = f(supply) only? If so you're hilariously wrong, if not you have no argument and are just talking to save face.
>>
>>18652134
I'm saying that productivity is increased when it's faster/cheaper to produce and supply something and AI has been a nothingburger, and so has the internet.
>>
>>18652135
>AI has been a nothingburger, and so has the internet.
Then you're completely wrong, and clueless as to what is actually going on in this world.
>productivity is increased when it's faster/cheaper to produce and supply something
It's far faster and cheaper to produce, ship and transact a lot of things today because of software, AI and ML.
>>
>>18652136
>Then you're completely wrong, and clueless as to what is actually going on in this world.
Ironic.
>It's far faster and cheaper to produce, ship and transact a lot of things today because of software, AI and ML.
It certainly is, thanks to progress which peaked around the 80's and has since plateau'd.

You used to have to drive to blockbuster or GameStop to buy the disc for a movie or game, and they would have to get it packaged and delivered and manually placed on shelves. Since around 2005-2010, you can stream via Netflix and download games via steam, PSN etc. as long as you have internet. The high volume low latency internet services are all possible due to AWS and GCP. How many hours and gallons of gas have been saved since 2010 with internet and cloud? Do the math.
