Can we have a thread about the history of the World Trade Center that is not about 9/11 but instead the whole history of the buildings and campus around them?
Starting off, did you know the name "World Trade Center" is meaningless? It's a colloquial use of the word "trade" and the building held no association with actual governing bodies of world trade such the World Trade Organization. The towers were just huge, publicly funded office park towers that anyone with enough money could rent floor space on.

>>18653806And it took way too long to build. Absolute joke.
Who the fuck gives a shit about some stupid corporate buildings?Americans could literally make their dog’s excrement a “national landmark”
>>18653806Far from the worst architectural crime in America, or even in New York City. The razing of Old Penn Station is a crime against humanity. Replacing it with the current ugly rat's warren of a subway station is pissing in the eye of humanity.
only jew yorkers cared about these eyesores.
>>18653674Back in 1993 an Islamic terrorist parked a car with a bomb in it in the WTC parking lot and exploded it, killing 6 people I think.

>>18653900The WTC towers were not actually corporate buildings per se. They were owned by the New York state government, and then were offered for rent to businesses. That rent then went back into funding public works projects. They were something closer to Central Park than they were the Empire State Building (which is privately owned).
>>18654473Before 9/11 the Towers were not well-liked by New Yorkers, especially when they were first built.
