Why would the Germans sign a treaty of non-aggression with their sworn ideological enemy who they believe to be under the control of jewish marxists, the people who they believe were responsible for Germany’s loss in the first world war and the societal decay during the Weimar Republic? Even if it’s beneficial to take territory and focus on their other enemies, it completely goes against what they ideologically stood for.

Three main reasons:1. Hitler found out that Britain was trying to negotiate an alliance with the USSR in 1939. He took action and offered the USSR something better.2. Hitler was hoping that their pact and joint invasion would deter the allies from declaring war, and simply leave Poland to its fate.3.
