Tibetans use an Indian derived script, even the Tocharians as far into Western China were using an Indian derived script and giving themselves Sanskrit designations, all of South East Asia uses scripts descended from Pallava Brahmi, the national epics of Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, are all localized variations of Valmiki's Ramayana. Sanskrit theology spread all over East Asia and got localized there. Heck, the first Indian arrived in Japan almost a milennia before the first European did and contributed significantly to the Japanese understanding of Buddhism.
