In 2008, the Vatican issued a directive stating that the personal name of God—the sacred Tetragrammaton, YHWH, commonly pronounced "Yahweh"—must not be used or pronounced in Catholic liturgy, hymns, or public prayers.KEY DETAILS OF THE 2008 DIRECTIVE>The Document: Released on June 29, 2008, the Letter to the Bishops' Conferences on 'The Name of God' was issued by the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments under the direction of Pope Benedict XVI.>The Rule: The four-letter Hebrew name (YHWH) is neither to be spoken aloud nor sung during liturgical celebrations.>The Substitutes: Instead of "Yahweh," the church instructed that translators and the faithful use equivalents such as "Lord" (or Adonai, Kyrios, Dominus, Señor, etc.) or "God".REASONS FOR THE RULING>Reverence for Tradition: The directive followed the immemorial tradition of both ancient Judaism and early Christianity, which viewed the divine name as unpronounceable out of profound reverence for God's infinite majesty.>Interreligious Respect: Pronouncing "Yahweh" publicly can be considered offensive or objectionable within traditional Jewish practice, which strictly avoids uttering the divine name.>Historical Continuity: Early Christian translations (like the Greek Septuagint and Latin Vulgate) consistently rendered YHWH as "Lord" or "God," a practice the modern liturgy sought to reaffirm after the unauthorized use of "Yahweh" crept into some modern hymns and prayers following the 1970s.

>>18654099The reason Jews and Christians avoid the name is that putting a personal name on The One simply feels wrong. It makes him sound like just another deity. Of course, that is how he was thought of back when Israelites used it freely. Jehovah's Witnesses are a weird exception to this, maybe because they're too low IQ to sense the tension at play.
>>18654278Calling and knowing his name in the Old Testament seems like something very important in the proper worship of him. It's literally impossible to even read one page of the OT without stumbling upon the Name. And if it was wrong to read the Name then the original scriptures wouldn't have been written with the Name on it.
>>18654099Early Christians never said they considered the divine name unpronounceable, this is a Jewish human tradition. The Septuagint was a Jewish and not Christian translation, which was inherited by the Christians, and because the New Testament uses the Septuagint it established the tradition of rendering the divine name as “Lord”, which is not remotely the same thing as considering it blasphemous to render the name. Here’s the sole real reason for the ruling:>can be considered offensive or objectionable within traditional Jewish practice
>>18654099Jehovah is a bad translation anyways. The reason we lost the original reading is because ancient Israelites avoided saying it in the first place.
>>18654346If you cannot mention God's Name during liturgy or singing himns in the church then that church does not belong to him. God loves his name, it's the holiest thing in existence. The only temple in history where he ever lived in and his presence was witnessed was the Temple that Solomon built because the Temple bore his Name.He referred to it as the Temple that bears My Name. In that temple His name was praised and worshipped with psalms and hymns.

If you think the name of the christian God can be spoken then you do not know the path which brings salvation and eternal life.
>>18654613Deuteronomy 6:13-15Yahweh your God you shall fear; and Him you shall serve; and by His name you shall swear. You shall not walk after other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you, for Yahweh your God in the midst of you is a Jealous God—lest the anger of Yahweh your God be kindled against you, and He destroy you from the face of the earth.
>>18654099I'm not religious but I've thought for a long time that this whole "don't take the Lord's name in vain" rule was just a poorly understood use of archaic language in Hebrew that must have meant to be restriction on taking oaths on the name Yahweh. Knowledge of the archaic dialect and figures of speech which the authors of the ten commandments spoke was lost and later Jews turned it into a superstition against saying Yahweh at all. It's the only way I can make sense of it. A taboo against saying Yahweh just sounds like complete nonsense. Ancient people took oaths on the names of gods.
Yahweh is self-admittedly evil.>Isaiah 45:7 "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things."
>>18654712It says he creates evil, not sin. Which means that when a bunch of wicked people are indulging in sins and a plague breaks out among them and kills thousands of them, that is his doing. It means there's not a good God that rewards and an evil God that punishes, but him alone does both things. When a good spirit comes to console you, Yahweh sent him. And when an evil spirit comes to torment you, Yahweh also sent him.But he doesn't crate wickedness, unholiness, degeneracy or sin. He send evil times to wicked people and makes them pay for what they did.
