Why do Brits seethe about Napoleon so hard?
Like a lot of wars Britain ultimately wins against people or places, he and his cause are just more likeable.But most of the Britons on this board don't know their own history other than through a lens of helping them win arguments with people on /int/.

British elites feared that French revolutionary principles could encourage republicanism and political unrest within Britain. Remember that British Elites saw themselves as a different race and different from the people they ruled. Napolean's revolution focused on a type of republic view of egalitarianism. He also threated their Imperial ambitions by his own imperial ambitions. They also feared him centering all of Europe's power together away from a model of royal families.

Them picking a leader and passively approving of a system of governance was more democratic than the Directory or any of the previous revolutionary regimes.It certainly was a step up from the Directorate.
