After studying Scientology, I'm pretty sure it was never intended to be a religion. It was pretty clear Hubbard hated psychologists and dianetics was supposed to be his own alternate psychology for people who hate psychologists. But the government did not like him and his followers practicing medicine without a license so he rebranded as scientology religion and made up the Xenu story because he thought needed a fairy tale to be considered a religion lol.

Not read on the subject other than modern scientology being a cult worse than JWs and scientology actually killed people during project chanology. But Dianetics was basically shut down for practicing medicine without a license, so he revisited his earlier religion idea, probably repurposed Excalibur as the higher level teachings, and folded Dianetics into it at the entry level stuff.

>>18659537The way I see it, Scientology is still basically stuck in the 1990s/2000's because that was the last decade in which Hubbard's playbook worked. The way I think of it, Scientology is perfectly taylored to the way society worked during the age of TV, so much so that it becomes unable to thrive if it's taken out of that environment.
