>>18659622Well, Slovenia was unter Germanic rule for over a millenium, while Croatia was part of Hungary, then Austria for many centuries. Wallachia and Moldavia, on the other hand, while vassalized by other empires for centuries, weren't completely annexed, so their cultures never drifted far apart. The religious factor has already been mentioned - Romanian-speakers are overwhelmingly Eastern Orthodox everywhere, with even the Catholic minority still keeping the Eastern Rite.

Moldavia has no real reason to exist other than being a chunk of territory (Not even the whole province of Moldavia, just the eastern half) that the USSR annexed (because the Russian Empire previously annexed it from the principiality of Moldavia). It's only soviet era boomers who still claim to be a separate country from Romania.
