Was he a cuckold? Was jochi his actual son?
>>18661145No, she was raped when kidnapped. They weren't sure if it was his or not but it doesn't matter, he had way more and his heir was his 3rd son who was for sure his.
>>18662555Even so, would you be willing to raise another man's child? Knowing that he came inside your woman.
>>18662961It was not mongol custom to just kill children. They had to be a certain height to be executed. And Genghis was known for 'adopting' into his family several non blood relatives who proved to be excellent commanders as well as very loyal to him and the Chinggisids. Muqali, Bo'orhul (probably misspelling) Bo'orchu, Shihi Qutuqu etc. were not related to him, but were still part of the inner circle
>>18662976This makes me think that they weren't quite as animalistic as they might seem, and that they actually had some form of social organization. I come from a Third World country where I've seen men on numerous occasions say that they wanted to kill children as young as seven simply because their mother was attractive, and that they wished they could kill her children so they could have children of their own with her, more or less like animals such as lions do. Fascinating.

>>18662983On the contrary, I know descendants of Genghis Khan in real life. Doubt me?
>>18662980They absolutely were not. Although bride kidnapping was practiced, there were certain rules that they could not break without facing severe punishment. If word got out that a certain tribe broke an unwritten rule of the Yahsa (their traditional code), they could well be exterminated like what happened to the Tatar tribe that poisoned Genghis' father and other examples. There was a baseline of humanity that most Mongols adhered to and some understanding/solidarity among tribes despite all the endless feuds, but what matters is also how they viewed non-Mongols especially after the expansion.
