How the fuck did Pentecostalism successfully influence Catholicism of all denominations? Wtf? There are legit Evangelical Catholics now because of it. Evangelicalism isn't just a Protestant movement anymore, it's also a Catholic thing. Wtf? Particularly among American Catholics, many of them appear like Evangelicals...

This is far from the only example of Protestantism influencing Catholicism. Ever since Vatican II, the Catholic Church has been making tons of rapprochements and concessions to Protestants.
>>
>>18661188
A byproduct of High Mariology that, if you look at lists of Marian apparitions, only become popular post-Reformation.

>Ever since Vatican II
*Ever since the Council of Trent

>How the fuck did Pentecostalism successfully influence Catholicism of all denominations?
How is this in the least bit surprising? Romanism has always been excessively supernaturalist and cessationism was always a distinctly Protestant position. If anything it’s surprising they weren’t babbling in gibberish sooner, instead of limiting their superstitions to old men levitating.
>Evangelicalism isn't just a Protestant movement anymore
This is such an incoherent statement, man, I hate modernity. Evangelicalism and Protestantism used to be synonyms, the term “Evangelical” was coined by Martin Luther as the name for his movement because he hated the term Lutheran.
>>
>>18661218
Lol no. At the Council of Trent the Catholic Church said to all Protestants that either you agree with them on absolutely every little thing or you're a heretic and you're going to hell. It's only much later that they started walking that back and making concessions to Protestants.
>>
>>18661227
there's a clear difference between old protestats like Lutherans, Methodists and Anglicans and the newer pentecostal movements
>>

I don’t see your point

This is India. I’ve seen Indian Pentecostalism, regardless of what flavour it takes (Catholic or otherwise) it’s a cult. I’m not using that term lightly, and expecting third worlders (in India no less) to not come up with something like this is funny. I’ve seen Indian “inter-caste marriages”, where two people of different religions marry. One case was a Hindu wife and a Catholic husband; instead of having two shrines dedicated to their respective religions at their home they had one, where an icon of Jesus and Mary was surrounded by images of Krishna, Ganesha, Durga and others from the Hindu pantheon.

It's about time you realize Catholicism is not "a" denomination, but is itself just as diverse in doctrine and practice as Protestantism is. There are over a billion Catholics.

They are effective. What they do works, and other things do not. It is just natural selection within a world where it is no longer permissible to fuck up people who leave the Catholic Church or just do not attend it.
>>
>>18662110
Catholicism is absolutely one cohesive denomination. The laity may believe whatever the fuck it wants but that isn't a new phenomenon.
>>
>>18662415
>The laity may believe whatever the fuck it wants
And so do the clergy
>>

A lot of countries outside of italy stretch the rules to the limit though. Just look at Germany with the "Synodal Path" that demands that women are allowed to preach and lgbt acceptance in the church.
And at that "Society of St. Pius X" from Switzerland which recently got excommunicated because they wouldn't even follow basic rules for several decades.
>>
>>18661188
The catholic church tolerates a lot as long as they still identify as catholic and the tithes keep flowing
>>
>>18661233
There's a direct line of continuity from the evangelical preachers of 16th-17th century Europe to modern American pentecostals, the reason the tend to belong to small sects or "nondenominational" churches is just because the established churches kept restraining them on what they were allowed to do. It's not like the established churches haven't changed themselves.
>>
>>18661228
Lol yes. The roman church began modelling itself off their opponents' movements during the counterreformation by banning all regional practices, killing off the last parts of older paganism and regularising everything.
>>
>>18662471
> by banning all regional practices, killing off the last parts of older paganism
This never happened. Peasants were hanging little brass limbs off statues and praying to allegedly very righteous dogs. It did genuinely reform the church itself and cut endorsement of these practices. But they didn't actually change anything about how the proles catholicked. Arguably they are directly responsible for syncretism in the Americas and Africa.

>and regularising everything.
This isn't a particular feature of protestantism, though. Even the organized national Churches still have a fair bit of variation within them. The Catholic church certainly tried to reign in it's but ngl that is just regular Catholic policy than about the Reformation.

>It did genuinely reform the church itself
So it did kill off regional practices
>This isn't a particular feature of protestantism, though.
It's a part of calvinism/reformed

mormen hos at lgbtr made them into mormen catlics
>>
>>18662482
No. People still worshipped Saint Wilgefortis, she just didn't get into official ecclesiatic art much.
>>
>>18662524
Every single church around medieval europe had its own practices, the counterreformation ended many of these and replaced them with a regularized practice based on that of rome. Why are you denying this?
>>
>>18661227
>This is such an incoherent statement, man, I hate modernity. Evangelicalism and Protestantism used to be synonyms, the term “Evangelical” was coined by Martin Luther as the name for his movement because he hated the term Lutheran.
Ok and the term that Lutherans use is different from the term non-mainline Anglo-American Protestants use. Lutherans call themselves "evangelisch" whereas the term for Anglo-American Protestants of the non-mainline persuasion is "evangelikal." Also, words change meaning over time retard. So it literally doesn't matter. Evangelicalism, today at least, is not Lutheranism. It's a specific brand of Protestant, and now potentially Catholic, Christianity that emphasizes a personal experience and/or relationship with God. Get over it.

The church founded on barley concealed paganism (saint and icon worship) takes more superstitious voodoo nonsense into its practices?
>>
>>18663103
You know you're going to hell, right?
