The recently islamizied north of the island worshipped Abba (Allah) but still ate pork because it was a frontier region. Spain captured and settle and converted several coastal regions but that’s all they could do for 300 years.Spain could not conquer the island completely until the late 1800’s with superior weaponry and manpower they managed to make some sultanates as vassals. It remained Muslim majority until America came in 1898 during the Spanish American war. Muslims were genocided because of superior weaponry of Americans and mass migration of Catholics from Luzon and other islands. Today the island is 25% Muslim but it was barely 10% after it was pacified and settled by 1941.An ode if you will, to these brave men for fighting non stop for 300+ years. Eventually they’ll get their island back.
