At least in the west, religiosity has been on the decline for a good century now. Christianity did establish the moral and social framework for the west, and it thrived above all others. Now with what was once the societal foundation being replaced with secular individualistic consumerism. Moral apathy, social alienation, and a struggle to keep beauty alive haunts everyone. I think it's delusion to think star trek is right around the corner when the results of a lack in belief has been clear for a good century now.

I understand why someone may doubt or reject the existence of God, but I do not understand why someone would want to live in a world without God, outside their own desire to be correct affirmed by others even if it comes at cost to everyone including themselves. What good does atheism do to the soul, what comfort does it bring outside shameless hedonism, what guidance does it give outside “there are no right answers so you can't be wrong.”

I think every atheist would be happier and contribute more to society if they, not necessary believe in. But at least acted as if they did believe in a God

Ignorant slaves, your vice is not your liberator but your master.

Delusional.

Be real. The West has been operating under a secular moral framework since at least the 19th century.
>>
>>18662962
>since at least the 19th century
Lol
Do you think jesus would sanction colonialism and slavery? Feudalism and serfdom? The west hasn't ever followed true chistian morality. (Meanwhile muslims followed mohammedan morality very faithfully, because it is evil and self interest made manifest.)
>>
>>18662979
>Do you think jesus would sanction colonialism and slavery? Feudalism and serfdom?
Yes. The Bible endorses all of these things explicitly.
>>

Well what do you know: I stopped being a vocal atheist once I realized we didn't have anything better to offer. (Which was rather quickly after becoming a vocal atheist, I might add.) But the sad truth is: Neither do modern christians. Even if we disregard the parts that are in fact detrimental to our thriving (pic related). The rampant degeneracy of the modern world, that I admit christianity and the church are legitimately against, are simply too attractive to avoid without either deep faith in god (that the church can no longer inspire) or a deep understanding of its detriments (which we are only slowly gaining, and the powers that be are actively suppressing). And the problem of a lack in god is not because fedora wearing neckbeards on the internet speak out against it I might add.

Sorry but the bigotry, superstition and science denial will stop.
>>
>>18662938
Why do you have a manic urge to worship jews?
>>
>>18662962
Actually fun fact, the moral framework under which the West operated was significantly LESS Christian 900-1600 than in early modernity.
>>
>>18662938
>I do not understand why someone would want to live in a world without God
If you have reason to believe that God, if he exists, is less than perfectly reliably benevolent, then you shouldn't want him to exist. In a reality with no omni-God at the bottom of it, there's some hope of it becoming kinder over time or of us understanding it well enough to turn it toward a more benevolent end over time. But if there's a fully cognizant omnipotent maniac at the wheel who has always been there and can't be removed, then the effort is more hopeless.

Personally, looking at the world, I have a very hard time believing in a perfectly reliably benevolent God, and the excuses don't work for me, so I prefer to settle for a comparatively anarchic reality. And I consider the God many Christians believe in to fall quite firmly into the omnipotent maniac category, especially with the whole eternal torment thing.

Being an atheist also saves you from all the cognitive dissonance that comes with trying to reconcile religious texts with themselves and with reality. And it saves you from the stupefying effect of divine command theory, where instead of looking at the visible consequences of things to decide what's moral, you have to look at what God allegedly told some guys at some point and weigh that above all visible consequences, because God holda the promise of infinite paradise and the threat of infinite torment over us.

>Christianity did establish the moral and social framework for the west
it didnt
>I do not understand why someone would want to live in a world without God
i dont want to live in delusion, which is worse.
>>
A world where we pretend there is a God, is still a world without God. Dumbass
>>
>>18662938
Not an atheist. Not actively religious. If I ever become actively religious again I will not worship the jewish deity YHWH that christians glaze.
>>
>>18662938
Maybe provide some kind of tangible benefit to people's lives.
>if you don't do what we tell you to do then you will burn in hell after your death (source: dude trust me)
>if you do what we want you will be in the nicest place ever after your death (source: dude trust me)

>Christianity did establish the moral and social framework for the west,
You mean, bastardized Platonism?
>>
>>18663173
Its really funny how much jews had to steal to make christianity palatable for goys.
>>
>>18663167
I am obviously biased as a Christian, but there isn't really a single secular institution offering wisdom. The kind of guidance on forming a participative relationship with reality and a stable perspective on it beyond "there are items in time and space". The public generally expects you to figure out wisdom on your own, using up whatever momentum the West still has from Christianity, but I'm not seein that that's enough for most young people. The way political narratives get inflated to existential importance is supposed to fill precisely this vacuum of perspective and relationship.
While not being obviously 'tangible' unless you study cognitive science, it's a benefit for sure.
>>
>>18663188
>but there isn't really a single secular institution offering wisdom
There is, it's called the contemporary education system
>>
>>18663188
The thing is Christianity does not really offer a coherent "guide to life" as Islam currently does, as Confucianism did and as ancient semi-religious philosophies like Stoicism used to do.

Modern churches are perceived as just being about taking your money and labor in exchange for salvation in the next life. What you do in this life, the churches don't really care about.
>>
>>18663209
What wisdom would that be?

>>18663220
A guide to life will necessarily fail. Particular ways to establish relationships with reality will take a beating and ask for more. The religions and philosophies you mention survived because they contained the latter, not because they appeared like the former. Sufi poetry contains some of the most perspective-shifting I've ever encountered.
>Modern churches
Granted.

Are you pagans or atheists? Do you believe in trans rights?
>>
>>18662979
>Do you think jesus would sanction colonialism and slavery?

The Roman Empire was doing all of those things and Jesus never condemned it, his advice was to shut up and pay your taxes to Caesar

I’m an atheist and I am proudly against trans rights.

Atheist. Rights are a spook.
>>
>>18662938
Why are you giving Christianity the credit where everything good that has happened to white people is due to our genetics?
>>
I can understand people who believe in God, and I can understand people who don’t believe in God, but I could never bring myself to the level of
>of course God doesn’t exist, heh, we all know that, but let’s all together pretend that he exists
spiritually neutered cultural Christianity. It’s so disgustingly dishonest both to yourself and everyone around you.
>>
>>18663285
Rights are fiction. Do I have the right to not be tortured? Because a mental illness tortured me for years. The right to life? Well everyone fucking dies. The right to freedom? A tyrant can take it away. Rights are just things people think they are owed, but just because people *should* be happy doesn't mean nature *owes* them happiness. *IT* certainly doesn't think it does, or there wouldn't be viruses. Rights are just desires, and thus not rights.

A lot of modern sociopolitical thought derives itself from The Enlightenment.
>>
>>18663688
Oh you mean like Japan? It's race/DNA, not religion, which creates a great country.
>>
>>18663691
What he said was completely right though. Jesus would not even fight the existence of the federal reserve because slaves shouldn't resist their masters and people should pay taxes to tyrants
>>
>>18663721
But He whipped the (moneylenders) and (chicken sellers) out of the Temple
>>
>>18663731
Which were private interests.
Not of the state.
>>
>>18663718
You're not Japanese dipshit
>>
>>18663753
Irrelevant. The Roman Senate was a long way to go and Jesus had other things to do. Beside, it wasn't the Romans who were fleecing the people, so He whipped who He had to whip.
>>
>>18663756
Way to dodge.
Roman presence was still felt by the inhabitants and in all Jesus' occupation as a preacher was not an instance of him speaking out against the empire.
>>
>>18663782
Why would He speak out against an empire He ordained Himself?
You make no sense yid
>>
>>18663718
>It's race/DNA
White countries were shit for the vast majority of history.
>>
>>18663784
Wouldn't the usual answer be that he doesn't concern himself with empires, but with the Kingdom of Heaven?
I honestly don't know what the hell you're talking about.
>>
>>18663850
I'm talking about Rome being God-ordained and a necessary vehicle for the spread of Christianity. Also helpful for chastising the jews 2 or 3 times but every empire did that at one point or another.
>>
>>18663232
All sorts. Just because you flunked out of school because you think it's a jewish plot doesn't mean it hasn't collectively improved the IQ of humanity as a whole
>>
>>18663862
So Rome was the whore of Babylon and when the empire converted it's the kingdom of heaven?
>>
>>18663862
That is certainly not in the Bible.
>>
>>18662938
Same thing is happening in china and they were atheists before and remain so
