You can’t even read the book of judges without it explaining to you about how they all died and the new next generation was sent judges because of how wicked the next generation was without their parent’s oversight. The book of judges is also thematic with donkeys and it says many of the children of Israel rode out on donkeys but you find Samson gripping a donkey’s skull in his plight against the philistines as one of God’s judges he sent. So it was basically like many of the Israelites were killed already by philistines or already worshiping their idols or hiding from them because God told them to stop fearing them on the roads. Pagan egypt where Pharoah had slaves and paganism meant all kinds of sin was going on. Then to Israel where the canaanites were living already so if you wanted to just go be a pagan why would you have come all that way through the wilderness with Moses just to want to go back? To resisting imperial cult worship from Nebuchadnezzar and then Romans infiltrate with their own king Herod who wanted to actually replace Israel with their own Roman Israel so then Jesus came as Moses, resisting this hostile takeover and he attempted to murder 1stborns.
