>>18665893tl;dr - moneyBasically the Soviet economic and social system was so utterly fucking buck-broken that even if they hadn't spent everything on prestige projects or military bloat they would have failed, even if they hadn't been locked into the Cold War. Soviet economics was just so utterly shit that it could not survive as a state. The Cold War just sped things up a bit.
