Why are there no Jinn in the Bible?
>>
>>18677321
A jinn is literally just an Arab demon/ghost. There are plenty of jinn in the Bible as far as Muslims are concerned.
>>
>>18677321
There actually is - the Book of Tobias.

Jinn were grandfathered in from pre-Islamic Arab mythology. Just like the Kaaba and the black stone.
In parts the Jinn are also a way to explain away polytheistic pre-islamic myths. Judaism and Christianity did a similar thing with the Sons of God/minor deities, turning them into angels.
>>
>>18677351
Catholicism does that sainting/angel thing with pagan nonsense.
But I don't know if Orthodoxy does. Anyone calling any pagan entity anything less than a demon is a liar. They take up these fake roles to turn people from God.
>>
>>18677321
conceptually, its the opposite of an angel except for dark hell-spawned demons. Sadly though, nobody seems to know what either is anymore.
>>
>>18677321

THERE ARE DEMONS;THE DJINN ARE DEMONS.
>>
>>18677444
Djinn have nothing to do with angels or demons. They are their own thing.
>>
>>18677460
If it's a spirit and it doesn't obey God, it's a demon.
>>
>>18677460
>>18677462
>>18677449
to be technical, a Djinn is a devil. A demon is something else.
>>
>>18677462
Djinn aren't spirits, retard.
>>
>>18677476
>an ethereal being that possesses people
>yet it’s totally not a demonic spirit
Idk why you are dying on this hill.
>>
>>18677475

«DEVIL», «DJINNI», «GENIE», «DEMON», «DAEMON», ET CETERA, ARE ALL DIFFERENT WORDS FOR THE SAME ENTITY, MORON.
>>
>>18677475
To be technical, there is no 'a' devil, the Devil is a specific demon in the Hebrew and Christian tradition that was conceptually absorbed into the general Satanic imagery as the tradition developed post 4th century. A demon is any spirit that is in rebellion against God.
>>
>>18677484
Djinn aren't ethereal, they're anthropomorphic.
>>
>>18677498
There’s no contradiction between those two things.
>>
>>18677509
Let me simplify it for you: Djinn aren't ethereal.
Anyways, this categorization shit is retarded, here's the Quran's description of the Djinn being created:
>This is because God Almighty created the angels and the jinn before He created the devils and mankind
They are their own, exclusive thing.
>>
>>18677513
Except they literally are ethereal beings. They are made of smokeless fire. It simply doesn’t matter what the Quran says in this one verse. For all intents and purposes they’re demons and Muslim writers often equate them with demons.
>>
>>18677489
>>18677488
a devil is a class of things, some better known than others, which are often generalized, not incorrectly, as just being one thing because from certain points of view there is no point in distinguishing between them
>>
>>18677529
>They are made of smokeless fire
That's not what ethereal means.
> For all intents and purposes they’re demons and Muslim writers often equate them with demons.
And men are often equated with demons as well. Do not mistake poetic license with metaphysical fact.
>>
>>18677538
It is exactly what it means. According to Aristotle fire is the most subtle of elements, and Christian writers like Tatian literally say angels and demons have subtle bodies made of fire. This is not something unique or special to Islam. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
>>
>>18677544
Damn let me pull up the Koran's citations on motherfuckin platonic metaphysics bro
>>
>>18677531
>a devil is a class of things
The Devil is a specific being, whose name was absorbed into the general class of Satanic imagery. We have the paper trail from Second Temple, where it was separate, to Church Fathers, where the merging starts, to late Medieval texts, where the merging is in full force.
If you're narrating the Quranic POV, you're just referring to the post-Church Fathers times when laymen were first getting away with these conflations.
>>
Not sure what's going on in this thread, but Jinn in Islamic mythology are another creation of Allah. They are not inherently good or evil. They have to follow the divine law just like humans, including the regular prayers and such. Mohamed was a prophet to both humans and jinn.

Angels were created from light, Jinn from smokeless fire and Humans from clay/dirt.
They do have bodies, but they are usually invisible to humans.
They sometimes take on the forms of animals.
They often have supernatural powers like being able to possess humans.

Sometimes demons are described as being (evil) jinn.

>which are often generalized, not incorrectly, as just being one thing because from certain points of view there is no point in distinguishing between them

>>>>>not incorrectly
>>
>>18677630
>from certain points of view
>>
>>18677651
It's precisely the fact it holds up only in certain points of view that makes it incorrect, Anon. That's how mistakes work.
>>
>>18677661
From your point of view there are literally an infinite number of devils, but from a perspective you can not access they are all one.
