"Appeasement" gave the western allies complete moral clarity and superiority that resulted in limitless morale to carry out the fight to the finish.If Germany were attacked in 1938, it's doubtful the war would have went any better for the western allies, and it would have created moral ambiguity. Americans, British and French will fight ceaselessly if they believe it is for a just cause, but their resolve is significantly less if they believe the fight was avoidable in the first place. In order to make a war just, all non-military solutions must be tried before war is resorted to. If Germany were attacked in 1938, you'd have just as many people asking the necessity of it and questioning Hitler's true intentions as you have people shaming "appeasement" today.
