Today we're looking at Gaius Julius Caesar, better known just as Julius Caesar, or even just Caesar.

Julius Caesar (7/12 or 7/13/100 BCE – 3/14/44 BCE) was a Roman general who became the dictator of Rome until his assassination. He was crucial to the formation of the Roman Empire.

Some notable facts or feats include
>Originally a priest of Jupiter. Forced to abdicate position after Sulla’s civil war
>Began military career. Won the civic crown at the Siege of Mytilene
>Captured by pirates. Got pissed because the ransom was too low and made them double it. Made friends with the pirates
>Told them he would crucify them once he was free. They thought he was joking. He wasn’t.
>Elected into a military tribune in 71 BCE. Became a lifetime senator by 69 BCE
>Formed the 1st Triumvirate with himself, Crassus, and Pompey in 60 BCE
>Won many victories in the Gallic Wars
>Invaded Britain and built a bridge across the Rhine
>Triumvirate broke down by 50 BCE due to his growing power
>Defied the senate’s orders to relinquish military power and crossed the rubicon in 49 BCE, beginning another civil war
>Won and became effective ruler of Rome
>Created the Julian calendar. Reduced the grain dole, settled veterans overseas, increased size of senate, extended citizenship to Spain and northern Italy
>May have had a son with Cleopatra
>Proclaimed himself dictator for life in 44 BCE.
>Wife told him not to go to the Senate the day of his assassination. He ignored her
>Fearful of his power, a group of senators led by Brutus and Cassius stabbed him to death on the senate floor
>Day of death now known as the Ides of March
>“Veni, vidi, vici” is attributed to him
>Entire life is well documented due to many contemporary sources, including his own words
>Words kaiser and tsar derived from Caesar

What do you think of the guy now known for salads?

GOAT. His military career mogs that of Alexander, Hannibal, and Scipio. And he was also a writer, politician and statesman, pontifex maximus, lawyer etc.

I will forever hate HBO for canceling "Rome" so they could make shitty and retarded "Game of Thrones" instead.

Rome started off strong but became more and more silly towards the end of the season as they kept having the (somewhat) fictional main duo inadvertently cause every major historical event by messing up or whatever to the point any suspension of disbelief was nearly impossible. The world felt small because everything had to have those two behind it.

Since threads about (potential) fags seem to last the longest I guess this one will last for quite a big while

I wasn’t aware he was into boys. Didn’t he have multiple kids with his wife?

They made him deny being homo under oath, lmao. Nothing changes.

Why did they make Augustus sleep with his sister?
Also, imagine if they enough of a budget to reenact the battles. Caesar's life deserves way more. It's better than almost all fiction.

Serious take, Rome wasn't perfect either. The (spoiler) Caesar-Servilia scene was gratuitous stupidity that made no sense for either character. Likewise (spoiler again) the Servilia-Octavia whatever that was. Both without a shred of evidence amd both in very bad taste to boot. And these are just the two obvious ones.
That being said, it was still a great show, and it sucks that (some people) burmed down the set thereby sealing its fate.

If he hadn't been assassinated imagine how much longer Rome could've lasted

He would embarrass himself in parthia and his detractors would use the opportunity to remove him from power

Mark Anthony invaded following Caesar battle plan (basically a big raid for loot) and was successful in sacking Pisstapon the capital.

The potential for military disaster was high (as always, when talking about Rome and Parthia) but it's Caesar. The man thrived in desperate situations and moreover wrote his own propaganda. I doubt he'd let himself get killed or utterly defeated in Parthia, and whatever the result, he'd undoubtedly put a good spin on it, in his own record of the campaign.

This, if caesar managed to spin achieving nothing of note in britainnia into a cause of celebration for the romans he could also easily just sack a city or two and claim victory even if he ended up losing half of his men.

Being the first Roman in Britain is a pretty cool and notable achievement.
