Hitler's campaigns relied on mobilizing male factory worker population, doing a quick 5 minute adventure blitzkrieg and demobilizing right after. This strategy was not viable for long campaigns. Sure, USSR was right in the middle of it's army modernization/reform, but expecting a campaign on the largest country in the world to be a quick one just like Poland or France is delusional. 6 months to Moscow and they sign the surrender even more so. Perhaps his medication regiment compounded with self induced delusions that aryan superiority is the prevailing metric to judge the outcome of the war is what led Hitler to believe he could do this.
