>Sun Tzu said: In the operations of war, where there are in the field a thousand swift chariots, as many heavy chariots, and a hundred thousand mail-clad soldiers, with provisions enough to carry them a thousand li, the expenditure at home and at the front, including entertainment of guests, small items such as glue and paint, and sums spent on chariots and armor, will reach the total of a thousand ounces of silver per day.>Such is the cost of raising an army of 100,000 men.Who the fuck couldnt figure this out? This is the level of chink military theory?
>>18689392>Who the fuck couldnt figure this out? Young noblemen & barely literate common-born cadets who were about to enter the King's service as officers in Warring-States Era China. Since, you know, the Art of Wars is a back-to-basics "how-to" manual. But yes please tell how this is supposed to be "common sense" in a pre-modern, pre-internet, pre-literacy age cadets, o Total War/Paradox player.
>>18689486This is common sense because you can observe it with your own eyes
It’s something that can be easy to forget. How many ordinary people are thinking when they vote on pro-war politicians today that these wars cost literally trillions of dollars with a T? Most people never think about it. They get that war is expensive, but they never really think about what that means.
>>18689552Whats it mean anon?
>>18689392This is the opening statement for a chapter about the need to end wars as quickly as possible so as not to impose a financial burden on the country supporting you. The point here isn't to teach readers the exact cost of their armies, it's remind readers that military campaigns are extremely expensive.
>>18689392Americans and Russians don't think about these things today and they start wars without logistics. You think people thought about these things 2000 years ago?
>>18689534Common sense yes but surprising how many armies fail at the basics like lil Russia
>>18690166And yet America, a global superpower, fumbled a seemingly easy take over of Iran, having to negotiate an ""investment"" fund with Iran (contribution in less euphemistic language(. And Russia, well, I don't have to go into details about this one. Although at this point I think Russia doesn't even intend to this one; rather keeping it indefinitely running to constantly have a stranglehold over its male population.
