Its military, infrastructure and demographic losses shattered much of its potential power. They would recover sufficiently by 43-45’ in beating the Germans back with substantial lend lease support, and create a sphere of its own in Eastern Europe. But looking at raw data they were never really close to their rival of the United States, chronically underdeveloped in everything except heavy industry. Much of this is derived from inherent communist inefficiencies, but the events of 41-45 may have exasperated it.
