I've heard for years that the Nazis had a surprisingly pragmatic and at times sympathetic attitude towards certain MENA populations. I had heard that Hitler apparently considered Iranians to be Aryans, and that certain officials held positive views on Islam. I've never been able to find any primary sources for this. I was hoping someone here could further elaborate on these claims, how true they are, and any nuances there may be. I'm also aware of Mussolini declaring himself the protector of Islam, though I always took that as being more of an opportunistic political maneuverer than any genuine feeling of kinship. I always wondered how the Fascists felt about the non-european populations of the Mediterranean, considering that many of them could visually pass as being southern europeans.
Germany supported anti-colonial resistance, this included the Arab world. They wanted an uprising in Egypt and Palestine, and supported the uprising in Iraq (Mesopotamia). They were also very effective in swaying many Indian POW to take up arms against the British.Japan also self-styled itself as 'liberators' against the colonial powers with the "Asia for Asians" slogram (even tho this in reality meant Asia for Japan). This was a major reason why decolonialism in Asia happened almost immediately after ww2 ended, while decolonialims in Africa didnt happen until the 1960s.
