Sure, you aren't Chinese in the sense of nationality, and you didn't grow up with Chinese culture, but you do have Chinese heritage and the history and culture of China is there for you to learn about, not simply as some academic subject, but also to emotionally and culturally connect with.In my own case I reached out to various Chinese-Australian organisations who focus on Chinese-Australian history, mostly from the 19th and early 20th centuries, and they have been nothing but welcoming and helpful. Not a single one of them, and they are staffed by people who are either completely ethnically Chinese but born in Australia, or people who have migrated from China themselves, have told me that I need to stay away from my heritage because I'm not "Chinese enough".
