How did Israelis so easily BTFO all their Arab neighbours? Are Arabs really that retarded? The more I read about the Arab-Israeli Wars, the more stumped I am by how bad the Arabs are at warfare

It's slightly more nuanced than that. I do find it hilarious how the Arabs consider 1973 to be their redemption but imo their most embarrassing military moment came in that war. In 1967 it was the early surprise attack which helped Israel wipe out the Arab air forces. In 1973 the Arabs struck first and gained exactly what they aimed for, but then Sadat moved his armor out of the Soviet SAM umbrella protection. In 10 days the war went from Egypt securing positions on the eastern side of the Suez Canal to the IDF being 60 miles from Cairo. The Soviets had to threaten the US with direct intervention to force a ceasefire and keep the Arab "redemption" intact.

The Yom Kippur is hailed as a victory for Egypt but both militarily and politically Israel won, they secured peace with Egypt since 1977 and have had no wars since, well I guess you can consider that a political win for Egypt in the sense too

Dictatorships in general are bad at war because the militaries are designed to defend the regime, not the state. As a result command and control will be intentionally fragmented often even by creating multiple redundant and competing armed forces to reduce the chances of a successful military coup, which means military decisionmaking will be sluggish and uncoordinated, and combined arms training will be essentially nonexistent. Second, in a dictatorship promotions are given on the basis of political reliability, not competence. In fact incompetents are often intentionally promoted on the basis that they know they would never be entrusted with such an important position if not for the regime's patronage network, making this incompetent loyal to the regime that has advanced him over his more competent peers. Third, officers will intentionally hoard information instead of properly training their subordinates so they will remain invaluable and cannot be replaced. Fourth corruption is endemic to all dictatorships without the rule of law, so well connected officers can easily steal from the military budget without fear of getting caught, which will result in senior leaders having unrealistic estimations of how much firepower they actually have at their disposal.

Finally the mission, and what militaries in dictatorships train for, is turning their guns on unarmed protesters, ethnic minority militias, and other threats to "internal security" so when they fight a real military they get BTFO in nanoseconds.

It's always easier to win a defensive war. The Arab states also had no coordination and couldn't agree on what to do with Israel's territory if they won; nobody could agree on who got what.

Yes. In fact there are articles on that

>but imo their most embarrassing military moment came in that war.
I think the most embarrassing military moment was getting their air force completely destroyed 2 times in 1956 and 1967 respectively lmao

even the Lubavitcher Rebbe was seething and crying about leaving the Sinai, people were chaining themselves to the gates of settlements as the Israeli army was evacuating them, and Jews are mad about leaving it to this day

I won’t deny that Israel was winning at the time of the ceasefire but diplomatically they totally lost and got outjewed, abandoning their positions. They had settlement plans for the Sinai which had to be called off
>>

Only the most rabid of them still whine about Sinai. Mecahem Begin used the opportunity of giving it away to anchor Israeli settlements in the West Bank while appearing as a peacemaker.

I think the motivation of the Arab states to really die and fight for Palestine has always been overstated too.
I mean in the early days of the USA we had cases where militias from different states were refusing to fight outside of their own state because they didn't see the point of fighting for "the nation" as a whole. How are you gonna convince these Egyptian or Syrian or Iraqi peasants that their supposed "national brothers" in another place far away are worth fighting hard for? Motherfuckers barely identified with their own states as it was, nevermind ANOTHER one they don't actually live in.
Even today in the age of social media and nationalized frenzies, most Arab support boils down to symbolic rhetoric and fuck all else

regardless of what /pol/ retards think Israel can only do what the US State Departments allows it to and we have a conscious interest in preserving the balance of power in the Middle East and not letting them blanda upp too much
>>
>>18719047
>Israel can only do what the US State Departments allows it to
And there's no reason for the State Dept. to allow Israel to develop new settlements in the West Bank. At the very least Israel should not be allowed to build new settlements on the eastern side of the West Bank barrier which Israel itself constructed in the early 2000's. Yet they continue to do without serious sanctions being levied.

Israel’s wars are like if WW2 ended after the battle of France, or after Barbarossa
when two major (European!) military powers got buckbroken so badly that it barely made sense. Of course, per the Law of Large Numbers, the Allies equalized as Axis brilliance evaporated and average performance returned to the expected mean.

In these wars, however, there was a ceasefire every time, so Israel didn’t get sucked into a large-scale positional / attritional conflict. Armored maneuver warfare, and aerial warfare, are areas where signals / coordination / morale / initiative are even more decisive than they usually are, we saw how the Italians got BTFO in Operation Compass, or how Rommel dabbed on the Brits on the Gazala Line…

If the Arab leaders actually believed the propaganda about Israel being an existential threat with which no compromise can be made, then they wouldn’t have given up so easily. Today we see how various militant groups like Hamas or Ansarallah fight to the death, so Arabs (esp. when boosted by religious fervor) aren’t uniformly gonna be surrender monkeys. Israel dabbed on them hard enough to make war not worth it, but it didn’t totally rape them out of existence

The Jordanians did somewhat well in 67 inspite of being surprise attacked but that was primarily because they fielded British Hawker Hunters piloted by pakis. They then largely abstained in 73 after Black September set the monarchy (the very same one Lawrence helped against the turks) against the Palestinian cause.

As for Egypt and Syria, theirs was a nation that freed themselves from British and French influence, but in the process began to "Arabise" as all their non-Arabs who often were better human capital left for greener pastures than some leftie nationalistic shithole. The lesson they learnt from 67 was to rely more on SAMs than on air superiority, ultimately hurting their own manueverability. It was also because Soviet migs were inferior to their French counterpart the mirage that the jews put forward. Lastly, by the 80s, the only hostile party were the Syrians and even they had largely softened having been humbled time and time again (something about beating a rabid street dog until she learns). The strategy by then was to max out on guerrilla warfare

This is real poor post hoc reasoning. One can look at Napoleon Bonaparte, North Vietnam, and even the Iranians today to a certain extent and find competent tyrants. What matters more are behaviors and personality traits like courage, humility, endurance vs cowardice, arrogance, and unrealistic expectations

>>18719101
Napoleon lost and south vietnam happened to be more corrupt and incompetent than the north.

They are actually a good example of a military that is designed for regime survival at all costs over the welfare of their own people.
>>

The Arab states in 1948 had WW1 equipment and not much combat experience while Israel had a lot of WW2 veterans.
