Fulton Sheen's Jaw Bone is now to be worship..... oh venerated.
>>18720156Hold fast to the traditions of the apostles.Relic veneration is a ancient practice in the church. Blessed Fulton Sheen through his voice spread the message of the gospel to millions. It is only fitting that this be his relic.https://www.youtube.com/shorts/X41N3ESkAiI

Its a joke since Fulton was quite outspoken and often controversial. So they are mocking him by showing everyone "Look his jaw has turned silent".
>>18720156To think there was a time where you would be killed if you didn’t agree with this. Every human being on earth should be thankful for the Protestant Reformation.

>>18720168>Hold fast to the traditions of the apostles. You mean these guys? Who were born in Jewish families living in Jewish cities, given Semitic names at their birth, and hid their Semitic identifiers from the goyim?
>>18720156>>18720609>>18720625>And Elisha died, and they buried him. And the bands of the Moabites invaded the land at the coming in of the year. And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet (2 Kgs. 13:20-21).In fairness to Roman Catholics and the Orthodox, there is a clear Biblical precedent for the power of relics (and even the very bones of holy men).

I get the vibe with a lot of this that the Church and clergy don't really believe in magic bones and what not, but instrumentally they "bring people to God" and so are tolerated as a folk tradition. When I was getting interested in Catholicism I read a sermon(?) called something like the "narrow gate or narrow way", which traced through the Bible at how few people are actually saved. Noah's family as a percentage of the population and so on through the Bible, that 99.99999% of the population are dammed even today, even "good Catholics". This terrified me at the time so I spoke to my priest about it, he just laughed and said, "oh yes, that one gets brought out if priests need to put some fear into people"... Which shocked me... This was a deeply learned and religious person, not a cynic by any means. I think it's a case of milk and meat, the laity are given milk like children: fear-mongering, Jesus-as-sensual, magic bones, etc while the meat: unknowing, contemplation, sacred magic is reserved for the clergy.

>>18720689The grave of Moses was deliberately hidden so people wouldn't venerate it
>>18720735I think that's a fair point. The bronze serpent was also destroyed because people were burning incense to it. I think it's nevertheless important to point out that relics are shown to sometimes have power in both the old and new testaments.
>>18720689"God can in principle perform miracles using a relic" is a very different claim from "you should venerate relics." God can perform miracles using a toaster.
>>18720689...has it worked ever since?
