Why did Japan not have organized states or writing system until the middle ages and why weren't they conquered by china before that?
>>18720953Because the Yayoi were a very small tribal people who lived around Kyushu, Shikoku and little of western Honshu. Most of Japan was primarily Jomon before the early middle ages. Japan also had incredibly close ties with southern Korea. Those Koreans would occasionally handle Chinese writing for them before the Japanese eventually adopted it for themselves with the growth of Buddhism and Chinese culture spread to them by the Koreans.
