is logic the scientific study of correct reasoning? wait so how does science (natural, formal, social, whatever else) know there is such a thing as correct reasoning? wait so if science is based on the very reasoning it studies through the scientific study of logic like formal logic is there a principle in formal logic that says formal logic gives us correct knowledge about correct reasoning? science investigates reasoning and comes to correct conclusions about reasoning because it already assumed that the reasoning it was trying to show is correct is correct? isn't that circular? please help me I am so fucking lost idk how to understand the nature of reality anymore and the ultimate and fundamental structures of existence :( please please help. what are the first principles of science and how do we know they're true?
>>18723661>logic>scientificNo, logic is rationality.Science makes empirical observations and tests. Logic and math are pure reason.
>>18723661>s logic the scientific study of correct reasoning? wait so how does science (natural, formal, social, whatever else) know there is such a thing as correct reasoning? It doesn't. Most scientists are what are known as instrumentalists. Science is a tool, it's not strictly up to scientists to know how to use said tools in a way that they find most rational.
>>18723661Logic is a structure of arguments used to prove validity. Science is the documenting of observations that define the probability of the soundness of claims within a logical structure of premises and conclusions.Logic is about validity.Science is about soundness.
