He dissented in Miranda v. Arizona, meaning he thought it was completely ok for cops to kick the shit out of you to force a confession. Say something nice about him.
>>
I remember reading miranda and when I got to the part where it talked about the police putting out cigarettes on the defendant's skin to get a confession which they later recanted. I thought why on earth would a prosecutor want to go to court with that evidence? Yeah it forces the defendant to take the stand, but it will make the jury absolutely hate the prosecution because I think there's a pretty solid consensus in America that torture is bad.

Technically the Supreme Court banned third degree interrogation since Brown v. Mississippi, though I'm not sure it was strictly followed for a long time especially if the suspect was non-white.

Miranda warnings were just the FBI's standard warning they read to suspects. The Supreme Court simply applied it to all police departments.

Miranda warning simply make a suspect aware of their legal rights. Those rights are guaranteed by the constitution, the warning merely informs the suspect of them.

Why is it bad to torture criminals though? Criminals nowadays don't even get punished and get millions in go fund me money. That is way worse than torturing 1 innocent in exchange for torturing 99 guilty bastards

Again, why are all of you faggots and most faggots on the planet, not even solely in the west or per race but everyone worldwide, so fucking crazy that you think murderers need to be treated like Kings with warm food and clothes and 0 torture. They fucking killed people, they don't deserve to live. I am not crazy and saying "hurr wipe their entire family" no, I mean the murderer, torture him or her daily. You have people killing their children nowadays and they get treated like Royalty and even become rich.

How the fuck do you faggots defend the horrendouse state of society where criminals have better lives than victims
>>
>>18724989
yes as he said prior to MvA it was not required for police to read you your rights
>>
>>18725000
Because we have to prove you did it. Assume it was you being blamed for murder that you didn't do.
None of this is to spare the murderer, its to make sure they actually get the right guy.

Abdullah, I hate to break this to you but this isn't Egypt or Iran.

White in his dissent said something like he feared the majority ruling would make it more difficult for police to solve cases.

torture produces false confessions because the suspect will say anything to not be tortured

Do you live in Somalia where government barely functions?

>Yes, the police does not have to know the law
>Yes, the police is not beholden to the law
>Yes, the police is allowed to steal your shit and clear your residence of any valuables that happen to catch their eyes
>Yes, the police can enslave you
>Yes, the police can torture you

Sharia Law would be a serious upgrade for the Unistanians.

Apparently it's a choice between zero to three fatalities every other and 1500 ever year.

>Why is it bad to torture criminals though?
1. You don't know someone is a criminal until the state has proven they committed a crime. The government just arbitrarily saying "you are a criminal" does not make someone a criminal.
2. Information obtained under torture is worthless, as the person being interrogated will say anything they think the torturer wants to hear so they will stop the torture. This will inevitably produce many false denunciations that will result in the persecution of innocent people which is an injustice that will greatly undermine the people's respect for the police and justice system. This will also increase the likelihood of people engaging in self-help when there are crimes becuase they don't want to get the unjust government involved.

history definitely proved that dissent wrong
