Today we’re looking at Olof PalmeOlof Palme (1/30/1927 – 2/28/1986) was the prime minister of Sweden on two non-consecutive occasionsSome notable feats or facts include:>born into a prominent, aristocratic Swedish family, raised Lutheran, but rejected religion as an adult>though a sickly child, he passed a college entrance exam at 17>Palme's education was interrupted when he was conscripted into the Swedish army on his 18th birthday and served two years before being discharged and resuming college>he obtained a scholarship to study in the United States, where he came into contact with liberal student ideas and wrote his senior thesis on the UAW labor union>after returning home, Palme studied at the University of Stockholm>he would say his move to left-wing politics were inspired by seeing income inequality in the US as well as the segregated South>while visiting South Asia in the early 1950s, Palme was moved by the effects of colonialism and imperialism>he married his wife Lisbeth, a child psychologist, in 1956 and they had three children>Palme was elected to Parliament in 1957 and became a Cabinet member in 1963>he participated in protests against the Vietnam War
>the Social Democrat Party nominated Palme to succeed PM Tage Erlander in 1969>Palme was strongly disliked by Swedish conservatives and the business community for his avowedly leftist beliefs and his confrontational personality, as Swedish culture tended to favor polite debates and consensus politics>as PM, he embarked on several sweeping reforms including expansion of welfare programs, education access, workers' rights, and a significant increase in state management of the economy>Palme also strongly endorsed feminism and gender equality>he further favored nuclear energy, against the desires of some liberals, and helped establish it as Sweden's largest form of energy>in keeping with Sweden's neutral "third way" geopolitical position, Palme criticized the USSR and its Eastern Bloc satellites for repressive actions in addition to his critiques of the United States and allied governments>on February 28, 1986, Palme was walking with his wife in downtown Stockholm when a mysterious gunman shot him in the back at close range>he usually had no bodyguards as Sweden had little crime and not much concern was given to the PM's safety>despite all efforts and several suspects, the assassin was never identified or apprehendedWhat do you think of the man who was killed for believing in world peace?Link to previous thread >>18728857
>>18730503Literally who
>>18730508the guy who began the systematic destruction of Sweden
>>18730503>>18730506He started Sweden’s reputational position of being outspoken on global progressive issues that didn’t even concern them. Something I noticed only changed recently after they bungled immigration, forcing them to deal with internal problems. Norway has taken up that role now as the Nordic Progressive gendarme of strongly worded letters.
There's a Swedish drink that's one part vodka and two parts Bailey's called 'The Slayer', since Pettersson, the old suspect later acquitted, would drink it.
builds massive ghetto apartments on the outskirts of the city for the purpose of getting chuddy uncultured countryside Swedes to abandon their towns and villages and become urban slaves, while at the same time, on a totally unrelated note, throwing the borders open to refugees and immigrants and adopting an explicitly multicultural policy.Takes less than a generation for these newly urban swedes to realize how sick and unpleasant this commieblock urban lifestyle is, the countryside is now hollowed out so they flee to the suburbs instead, leaving the commieblock apartment ghettos standing empty, and surprise surprise, there's now a new community of immigrants ready to move into these ghetto apartments and fill them up with welfare-sucking parasite babies.Awesome.
the Swedish police never seriously tried to find the assassin because nobody actually cared that he died and everyone was like "good riddance"
>>18730503the only positive accomplishment of his was promoting nuclear energy because Sweden didn't have as large of a hippie lobby as Germany did to block construction of nuclear plants
When I lived in Sweden I frequently heard he was really adopted russian war orphan from Leningrad. Every place has its own conspiracy stuff I guess.
>In June 2020, Swedish authorities stated with confidence that they believed the assassin was Stig Engstrom, whom a couple of Swedish writers had long suspected, however Engstrom had committed suicide 20 years earlier.[9]
>>18730503Palme was the guy who started Sweden Yes.
>>18730568they no longer think it was Engstrom
>>18730566he had a clearly Swedish phenotype so that can be ruled out
>>18730557it was an inside job
>>18730573Baltic russians pass for scandies all the time
>>18730503>Palme's education was interrupted when he was conscripted into the Swedish army on his 18th birthdayWhy even bring this up?Literally every man who turned 18 had to do military service back then. You may as well have said that he also had two arms just to clarify.>he would say his move to left-wing politics were inspired by seeing income inequality in the US as well as the segregated SouthJust to clarify, Plame was a in-closet communist sympathiser who didnt like the USSR but liked the US even less.Saying he became a socialist because he "saw the US" is just cult-of-personality propaganda. He was always a socialist. For all you non-Swedes here, let me explain something. Palme belonged to the "68-left" generation. The 68-left was a cultural-political movement that revolutionized the left.It was the generation that had not grown up in poverty and hardship, they had grown up in wealth and prosperity. They decided to become left through their academic studies, not personal struggle. Palme belonged to this generation. The grassroot left before Palme had grown up in a Sweden where the overwhelming population was dirt poor, had no jobs, no employment protection, no housing. The socialdemocrats and labour unions back then focused on fair wages, on pensions, on education, on injury compensation etc.The 68-left believed this to be too "materialistic". They wanted to shift the focus on more subjective issues, such as gender, sexuality, identity, migration, enviroment etc. They wanted to "be the change" like their parents and grandparents, so they started to 'look for problems' to solve in order to be the heroes of their generation, while (as I mentioned) simutaniously rejecting the focus of their grandparents because it was too materialistic to focus on jobs, schools and housing. This was the reason Palme was so controversial. He started to uproot Swedish traditional society to create "fairness". The Socialdemocrats has pretty much followed his line
>>18730601Sweden was dirt poor in the early XX century yes. cf. Ingrid Bergman's tales of growing up in a slum neighborhood.
>>18730519>bring the entire Third World in here even though unlike the UK and France we don't even have the excuse of colonialism guilt
>>18731150I think this may have been the reason why certain Americans didn't view the Swedes as White. They were a shithole like Albania is today
