> Game has an obvious tutorial valley before the main partwhat other shit design is there in history?
>>18731532So what's the endless featureless plateau at the end of the playable area?
>>18731532If anything the Sichuan basin was a dlc expansion. The tutorial area is the Wei river valley (that bit of green jutting out from the middle west of the north china plain)
>>18731532The Sichuan basin wasn't even Chinese until the Qin dynasty though. The Shu and Ba states are related but not directly connected to Chinese civilization. China's tutorial zone was probably around Erlitou or wherever what became the Xia dynasty was.>>18731552Sichuan is the late game. South China and Vietnam are the DLC.>>18731538If you mean the Tarim basin, that's for sequelbait where you discover China isn't the only urban civilization in the world.
>>18731532Sichuan was more of a hack introduced by the devs to help Qin out because it was a stalemate for hundreds of years so the devs retconned the lore and added the Sichuan basin. Then somehow said basin was unconquerable during 3 kingdoms for decades and then got conquered because of stupid reasons then the steppe hordes came. It is just ass pull after ass pull, the devs are such fucking hacks.
>>18731532The tutorial was obivously the Yellow River since it was one of the most fertile areas in the world, so an easy start.
>>18731532>has an end game invasionK I N O
>>18731743Yellow river floods like a motherfucker. It's a noob trap. You think "oh look, endless floodplain and great climate, ezpz" then giga floods come and kill millions.
>>18731792>It's a noob trapYes, and not just because of the floods, but because the yellow river changes its course a lot, because of the massive amounts of silts it carries it will always inevitably burst its banks once the buildup raises the riverbed enough. It looks ideal for agriculture for the reasons you mentioned but then it surges out of its banks and wipes out entire towns and cities in the process. You actually need pretty sophisticated engineering to make it safe, it's not for beginners.
>>18731532Europe has something similar: The Carpathian basin.Instant cheat-code since most of the continent has somewhat shitty soil, but then there is this perfect circled place with 4x fertile soil (only Ukraine being 8x), so a bunch of nomads randomly settles there hundreds of years after mighty kingdoms has established themselves around the continent, and these said nomads suddenly becomes arguably the most powerful kingdom in the entire eastern continent.
>>18731805>Instant cheat-codeNah, it's a noob trap. Peoples come there, it's good land so they settle down, but it's very little so they can't grow and get fucked by the neighbors until some new noob comes to fall into it.
>>18731532What happens here?
>>18732601Some bullshit called Cantonese I tuink
>>18732601Vietnam and Vietnamese accessories.
>>18732601A bunch of semi isolated peoples who diverged over a thousand years in language and genetics, admixing with locals they genocided/raped. They are the Italians of the Chinese in a way. Think of each language group as an Italian city state with Min being Venetians and Yue being Genoese.
>>18732632Min = VeniceYue = GenoaHakka = Piedmont region probablyWu = FlorentinesXiang = NaplesPing = SardiniaGan = shithole inner villagesSocially speaking.
>>18731792Shows how little you know. Floods are required for the creation of mass agriculture based civilizations because they replenish the soil in a time before people knew about shit like crop rotation, fertilizer, or anything more complicated than "plant the food in the dirt". The Nile, Tigris/Euphrates, Yellow River, and Indus River were the places truly large scale civilization began because their constant flooding (sometimes gentle and regular like the nile, sometimes violent and random like the Yellow and Mesopotamia) kept depositing fresh nutrients into the soil which otherwise would have been exhausted like the Dust Bowl was by the constant farming.
>>18732601Before the 600's AD it was an undeveloped backwater. Fragmented and hard to administer because of all the mountains. After the 600's AD mass migrations from the North due to people fleeing civil wars and Steppe invasions, alongside an explosion in rice cultivation and maritime trade, cause it's population to skyrocket until it eventually becomes more populous than the north. It still remains very fragmented culturally and linguistically though, but becomes at least more governable by the central government even if the the idiom "The mountains are tall and the Emperor is far away" is meant to describe how local areas in the region often had no real government oversight, and if they did the assigned Officials could be as corrupt as they wanted because it was so hard to get in contact with the capital. There has been for a long time a lot of friction between the South having all the population and money, and the North having all the political power.
>>18731532>tutorial valleyhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zhang_XianzhongIf your tutorial had a secret end-game boss that arrived half-way through and killed or displaced between 1/3rd and 3/4ths of the population.
>>18731532>What about this corner?>Just put a square and use the "deform" tool. Nobody will notice
>>18732806Fuck
>>18731532The OG inhabitants of the Sichuan Basin- the Ba Shu people- failed tutorial I guess. They failed to become a civilization and got quickly annexed by the Proto-Han Northern China Plains people. The only thing we know about them is trippy artwork, tattoos, and headhunting.
>>18732808Nothing tutorialish about that dusty piece of shit
>>18732824Green Spain/Portugal is a lush paradise.
>>18732601That's where Sun Quan lives.
>>18731538Antarctica
