When did Northern Europe fully overtake Southern Europe?
During the high middle ages the most advanced places in europe were the mediterreanean areas which were much more developed due to previous greek/roman urbanization like Spain (under the Caliphate of Cordoba), Italy (under the various Italian city-states like Milan, Genoa, Venice, Pisa) and Greece (under the Byzantine Empire) while northern Europe wasn't as advanced outside of some cities like Paris and Cologne
>>
>>18734956
through plundering, thievery, and benefits given from southern europeans (eg. spain giving the north potatoes)
>>
>>18734956
Specifically during the high middle ages and it would remain so until the modern day.
>>
>>18734956
it just took some time for the post-Ice Age climate to stabilize
>>
>>18734956
>When did Northern Europe fully overtake Southern Europe?
When the protestant reformation happened.
>>
>>18734956
>while northern Europe wasn't as advanced outside of some cities like Paris and Cologne
Bruges? Ghent? Roüen?
>>
>>18734956
During the industrial revolution basically.
>>18734979
Yes, that's why everyone know about the Norwegian renaissance and the Germanic age of exploration and word spanning empires. Oh wait.
>>
>>18735070
>Germanic age of exploration and word spanning empires.
Thats the funny part iberians raped a whole continent yet these places were constantly bankrupt and more economically backwards and had to place rules to prevent everyone in these countries from fucking off to the new world due to how awful and poor life was in iberia
And once they were cut off from being able to rape their american colonies during the 1800s they literally economically degenerated to become as poor as the ottomans.
>>
>>18735070
>the Norwegian renaissance
Flemish renaissance.
>the Germanic age of exploration and word spanning empires
The British and Dutch Empires.
>>
>>18735084
>And once they were cut off from being able to rape their american colonies during the 1800s they literally economically degenerated to become as poor as the ottomans.
This is false.
>>18735092
Flemish renaissance wasn't a tenth as important as the Italian one, let's keep it serious
>The British and Dutch Empires.
Only came much later and the latter never was as important as the Iberian empires
>>
>>18735116
Franco-Austro-Hungarian alliance would be unstoppable.
>>
>>18735116
>>18735070
no reggaeton today, manolo
>>
>>18735116
You implied there was no Germanic renaissance at all though, and a tenth is still going too far. Erasmus, for example, was the most influential philosopher of his time.
>the latter never was as important as the Iberian empires
Less important than Spain, yes, but not Portugal.
>>
>>18735116
>This is false
And your source is a made up map you found online?
>>
>>18735141
reggaeton was a psyop by anglo freemasons to plunge hispanic america into degeneracy
it's no surprise it began in puerto rico, a us colony
>>
>>18734956
The Fall of Constantinople brought their existing eastwards trade network to the knees.
The increase in English carriers in the Mediterranean put pressure on their shipping network.
The Italian Wars pounded their home territory.
The discovery of the Americas and the route to India around the Cape of Good Hope cut them out of emerging new trade networks.
>>
>>18735152
spicland was always degenerate, moorberia and its consequences etc etc
>>
>>18735143
>but not Portugal
It absolutely was though. The Portuguese empire was the first european colonial empire, the one who did the most exploration and in addition to that it lasted much longer and Portuguese influence is more felt throughout the world than Dutch one. The Dutch only innovated in trade and commerce and were very quickly overtaken by the British. By the time the Glorious Revolution happened it was already almost a memory.
>>
>>18735176
I wouldn't call Brazil a net positive for humanity as much as those favelamonkeys would say otherwise
>>
>>18734956
Fully? Around the 17th to 18th centuries. Though depending on definitions an argument could be made that they were pretty evenly matched up and until the 19th century. Or even the early twentieth, being mean.
>>
>>18735176
Indonesia alone has as large a population as all of the portuguese ex-colonies combined.
>BUT THEY DON'T SPEAK DUTCH!!!!!
Why would you even want thirdies to speak your language?
>>
>>18735201
what other dutch elements stayed in indonesia after all those 300+ years?
at least english became the global lingua franca, and portugal has brazil

heck, even france has quebec
>>
>>18735178
And yet the countries colonized by the Dutch turned out to be worse, starting with their own Brazil, Surinam.
>>
>>18735204
>what other dutch elements stayed in indonesia after all those 300+ years?
That it even exists.
>at least english became the global lingua franca
Not a good thing, even if it does bring them bragging rights.
>portugal has a thirdie country +20 times its size
Absolutely not a good thing.
Spain had the sense to divide their chunk of America into separate colonies and can therefore still very much be the center of the Spanish-speaking world, but Portugal is humiliatingly always going to play second fiddle to favelamonkeys.
>even france has quebec
If the Quebecois count then so do the Boers.
>>
>>18735219
Brazil doesn't count, you can't claim the favelamonkeys as a Portuguese achievement and in the next say that their favelamonkey status is the fault of the ~30 years of Dutch control
>>
>>18735229
>but Portugal is humiliatingly always going to play second fiddle to favelamonkeys
Not really, only ameritards associate Portuguese with Brazil in the rest of the world and in europe people don't. Also Brazil lost its only PR mean, ie football, since they're shit now.
>If the Quebecois count then so do the Boers.
Given the absolute state of misery in which the boers live I'm not sure it's anything to brag about.
>>18735230
Reread my post
>>
>>18735239
>Not really
Yes really. Brazilian media is very popular in Portugal, but the reverse is not true. Most people who learn Portuguese learn Brazilian Portuguese to go to Brazil.
Brazil is one of the largest countries in the world with one of the largest economies, Portugal is irrelevant.
>Given the absolute state of misery in which the boers live I'm not sure it's anything to brag about.
A minority live in misery, but most live in gated communities guarded by one of the worlds largest private security sectors.
They have it far better than favelamonkeys.
>>
>>18735260
Not quite, the colonial elites of Brazil is much wealthier than the Boers are and more importantly they weren't cucked to death by niggers. Niggers in Brazil wouldn't even think in a thousand years to go against them. The buck breaking is generational.
Even the descendant of 19th century Portuguese immigrants in Santa Catarina live much better than the Boers
>>
>>18735293
>the colonial elites of Brazil
Difference is almost all Boers are elites in South Africa, thanks to Apartheid, and remain so.
>Niggers in Brazil wouldn't even think in a thousand years to go against them.
They have elected Lusa 4 times and will probably elect another third worldist socialist once Bolsonaro jr is gone, and they're also not any less prone to crime than South African bantus.
>>
>>18735293
What cope is this lol, brazilian universities have a bunch of quotas for bantuzilians to the point their enrollment has increased by 400% in a single decade
>>
1300 CE they reached parity, 1550 CE surpassed
>>
It's simple. While Spain, Portugal, etc, were out living the fast life and taking silver and spending it, they actually built up their nation in various way. Whenever the Southern European nations needed something, they didn't bother setting up an industry for it. Northern Europe needed something, they would find a way to make it, cultivate it. The south just bought it. They made the same mistake the US is making, thinking money and gold is more valuable than labour and industry.
