Jesus suffered on the cross. But the Buddha found the way out of suffering.

Nowhere do the suttas say to "empty yourself."

Philippians 2 does uphold Jesus emptying himself as the ideal Christian state of mind though

Despite Christianity and Buddhism being Spiritual and Jovian coded, Buddhism is just another form of Negative Utilitarianism just like Epicurean hedonism.
Jesus can take expensive perfume thats rooted in materialism and redeem it, but both Buddha and Judas would say to avoid perfume altogether.

This is also why Jesus solution to cravings is to look inward, as opposed to blocking out the outwards.

Buddha never practiced perfume sorcery so I guess Jesus wins here huh.

Buddha doesn't teach to block the outward. He teaches to no longer act out of sensual motivations. This is how even laypeople were able to become stream-enterers. You can't "redeem" perfume if your motivation behind using it is sensual in nature because it's a person's volitional actions which corrupt them, not objects existing in the world.

thats why he famously has his eyes closed in every single depiction of him.

great argument.

>Epicurean hedonism
Epicurus literally argued against excessive gluttony because according to him, expensive luxuries create more anxiety (pain) than they are worth as they are difficult to maintain and cause distress when lost. His logic was simple: if you train your body to only be happy with caviar, you will be miserable 99% of the time and if you train yourself to be happy with bread, you will almost always be satisfied.

This is closer to asceticism than it is to libertinism, especially since Epicurus believed that the greatest pleasures in life were food, water, friendship, and safety.

According to buddhist mythology there is a buddha who helps souls getting out of hell.

Epicureanism is, imo, closer to atheist and secular strands of Buddhism than modern liberalism. Perhaps the Indo-Greek exchange during Alexander’s time might be the reason for the similarity between Epicurean ataraxia and Buddhist virtue/mental cultivation.

The temptation of Buddha by the demon Mara and his lustful daughters.
>>
>>18735663
After rejecting the path of radical life-denying asceticism, Siddhartha Gautama (current Buddha's name) sat down under a boddhi tree (as in the painting) and began to seek enlightenment. Mara, the incarnation of desire, wishes to prevent this and attempts to tempt Siddhartha Gautama away from pursuing that path; he tries to entice Siddhartha with visions of beautiful women, scare him with his armies, and demoralize him to make him give up. But he does not, and instead asks a goddess (the one sitting withing the little shrine with the hose) to help him, and she does so by sending a flood that sweeps all of them away.

In that sense, it is similar to the NT episode of the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness. It's not really a coincidence people superficially confused the two religions.

I never really realized people had hoses before modern times

Upon closer inspection, it's not a hose, it's her hair.
