Do you think a modern U.S. Navy Seal would stand a chance against a Roman legionnaire without any weapons involved?
>>18737468probably simply due to have better access to food as a kid
The Navy Seal would almost certainly have size on his side. But thats it. While a great advantage the legionnaire has much more hand to hand combat experience as that is his known method. Also he is probably much tougher mentally. The amount of dark soul you need to be able to stab someone to death is underrated. Just imagine it. They're screaming the entire time. The guy capable of doing cartel gore.
>>18737468I don't think the roman would stand a chance against a roided up modern commando.
>>18737468Probably not. A Roman legionnaire of the Imperial Age might be a grain-fed peasant from fucking Syria, who immigrated to Italy and is like 160cm tall compared to an 185cm Navy Seal. The latter has social class on his side, better diet, better genes, he belongs to a small elite of voluntary warriors and wasn't pressed into service.
>>18737468Armor can be a weapon. Are we talking mano a mano in the buff? Similar builds and weight classes? Can the SEAL keep his modern knowledge of martial arts? What terrain and weather? Both fully fed? How large is the arena? Can the SEAL simply jog around until the legionnaire gets tired? Can weapons be improvised?
>>18737468I'm pretty sure hand to hand combat has evolved along with everything else about combat, like the modern people would have modern moves and stuff
>>18737481>The Navy Seal would almost certainly have size on his side. But thats it.Nonsense, the SEAL is trained in kung-fu and shit, the legionnaire is just a brawler.
>>18737468>Average Male Height in the USA: 6ft>Average Roman Male Height in the 1st Century AD: 5ft 4inThe Romans would be fucked
>>18737481Modern MMA kicks the shit out of any human in history in hand to hand, and while farmers strength is commendable, modern men have access to proper diets, protein power, excersize equipment, and roids. Men have never been stronger or more lethal bare handed as a trained man today.
>>18737468>legionnaire>>18737481>legionnaire>>18737536>legionnaire>>18737541>legionnaire>>18737568>legionnaire
>>18737468The roman legion's effectiveness was never in the individual combat skill of the soldiers or whatever, it was in the strength of their logistics and their engineering. The legions would build a road as the marched, they would set up fortifications in a day, that would get more sophisticated every hour, when Caesar is in gaul they build a bridge over the rhine and surround a walled city with a double layered wall of their own. Of anything the legions performed rather poorly once they were outside their network and has to function as individual soldiers, a few bad trips into the forest and destert.
I would put a SEAL up against a Praetorian desu A regular US army private would be a more even match for a rank and file Legionnaire. I think the Roman soldiers would win simply because their training is so much more focused on hand to hand combat.
