He did pretty well right up until 1812.
Even after losing in Russia, Coalition had to scrounge up every able bodied man, surround him with bodies and even then they barely could do it and had to wait until he ran out of ammunition.
He also did pretty good in 1815 against all odds and was let down by incompetent marshals.
