So nominalism is the big bad boogeyman now, huh? Yeah so a niche position in metaphysics that the average person has literally zero understanding of corrupted society and brought moral decay. Makes total sense. Do you know how common this motif is in the history of western thought? It's the same line of bullshit that Jordan Peterson cultists use when they say postmodernism corrupted society. It's the same line of bullshit that existed during the Satanic panic, or the medieval witch hunts, or within antisemitism. Dude, stop being a dumb fuck, please? There is no overarching antichrist ideology, philosophy, religion, or whatever the fuck causing great moral decay. You're just trying to induce a moral panic of some sorts and your boogeyman just weirdly happens to be nominalism lol. Just shut the fuck up already. Nobody gives a fuck.

Nominalism is true, though

Nominalism gave rise to both the Right and the Left-Righism.

It argued that universal concepts (such as "humanity" or "justice itself") do not possess real existence, being merely individual names (such as "that man" and "that law"). Only individual and concrete things exist. If only the particular exists, the only way to know reality is by observing individual and concrete things.

This laid the methodological foundations for modern Empiricism, which argues that all knowledge derives from sensory experience and observation of the laws of physical world.

Before Nominalism/Empiricism, Natural Law was understood as an eternal, immutable, and universal law inscribed in divine law or nature itself, serving as a superior ethical standard that invalidated unjust human laws. The main difference between it and Canon Law lies in the fact that Natural Law was based on reason and the order of things (being accessible to any human being), while Canon Law was the positive law of the Catholic Church, based on dogmas, papal decrees, and the Holy Scriptures.

Under the influence of empiricism and the scientific revolution, 17th-century thinkers reformulated Natural Law. By rejecting the existence of universal essences in nature, it emptied Natural Law of its inherent divine/naturalistic content, viewing it strictly as a result of God's absolute and arbitrary will.

>we have more people that indenitfy as satanist, wicca and lgbt than ever in history right now.
Satanists think Satan was the good guy who only wanted mankind to have free will, and believe God is actually the bad guy, as he preferred humanity to be mindless slaves. (they're right by the way)
>>
>>18743747
Nominalists believed that God had no need or obligation to create the world, arguing that the act of creation was the result of God’s absolutely free and sovereign will.

In contrast to traditional platonic realists (such as Thomas Aquinas), who held that God created the world according to eternal forms or essences existing within His mind, nominalists rejected this, asserting that universals do not exist. For them, only individual things exist.

If there are no rules or essences preceding God that compel him to act in a specific way, then he is entirely free. God did not create the world because he "needed" to, or because the world "had to be this way", he created it simply because he willed it (potentia Dei absoluta).

William of Ockham maintained that God created the world with total and absolute freedom, unconstrained by any internal or external laws, as he believed, above all else, in divine omnipotence and the absolute will of God.

Since creation depends solely upon the divine will, the laws of physics, nature, and even morality are not necessary logical truths in the same way that the Will of God is. God could have created a universe with entirely different laws, or chosen not to create anything at all, and things would still be exactly as they are.

This change made the Natural law antagonistic to traditional Canon Law, as it replaced the authority of a rationalized ecclesiastical legal order with a theological and, later, individualistic voluntarism od God, which paved the way for modern secularization and Legal Positivism through the influence of Empiricism and the Scientific Revolution.

Instead of deducing laws from an abstract divine order, the Empiricist thinkers attempted to observe real and concrete "human nature" (the impulses of self-preservation, the pursuit of happiness, suffering) to derive inalienable "natural rights" (such as life, liberty, and property, in Locke).

From Natural Law and the idea that humans possess natural rights in the "state of nature", arose the need to explain why we create "the State" through a "Social Contract". This common trunk divided into two major political strands.

>The Right

Right-Wing thought took shape based on an empiricist perspective that prioritized the individual, security, and material possession as extensions of human nature.

John Locke serves as the cornerstone of this development, he observed that, in the state of nature, human beings are endowed with tangible, empirical rights: life, liberty, and property acquired through the fruits of physical labor.

For Locke, government arises from a social contract with the specific purpose of protecting these pre-existing rights, functioning as a limited arbiter that ought not to interfere in the private sphere.
>>
>>18743769
In parallel, Thomas Hobbes contributed to the conservative foundation of the right by observing empirically that human nature, absent institutional constraints, is governed by a fear of violent death and by selfishness, resulting in a state of "war of all against all".

The evolution of these ideas solidified modern right-wing thought, which advocates for the primacy of the individual over the collective, a free-market economy, and the sacred right to private property.

Freedom is understood here in its "negative" sense, that is, as the absence of state coercion, where economic inequality is viewed as a natural outcome of the varying individual capacities, merits, and efforts observed empirically in reality.
>>
>>18743774
>The Left

The Left-Wing thought stems from an empiricist analysis focused on how environmental and social structures shape human behavior, based on the premise that injustices are neither divine nor natural, but rather constructed.

Although Jean-Jacques Rousseau straddles the line between rationalism and romanticism, his methodology begins with an empirical observation of human history:

Human beings are born free and equal, yet the introduction of private property has given rise to inequality and physical servitude.

To mitigate the selfishness and misery he observed in the civil society of his time, Rousseau proposed a social contract rooted in the "General Will", a framework in which sovereignty resides within the collective body, and the common good takes precedence over individual property interests.

Thinkers associated with British Empiricism and Radical Utilitarianism further contributed to this foundation of this by arguing that human minds are akin to Tabula Rasa (blank slates), shaped by sensory experiences and their environment, a concept derived from Locke (in opposition to Descartes’ theory of Innatism) but radicalized by the Left.

Consequently, the State bears the duty to reform social and economic institutions to ensure the greatest well-being for the greatest number of people.

This lineage has evolved into contemporary Left-Wing thought, which prioritizes substantive equality, social justice, and State intervention in the economy, viewing the collective and the restructuring of human-made laws as essential tools for liberating the individual from material forms of oppression.

Scientific Realism, the basis of Modern Science and Physics, aligns more closely with Platonic Realism and it has effectively dismantled Nominalism in Cosmology.

Platonic Realism (Ante rem) posits that mathematical structures, physical laws, and abstract concepts exist independently of, and prior to, material objects. If the physical universe were to vanish tomorrow, the absolute truth that 20+20+20+7=67 would remain untouched within its own structural realm, as the sum exists antecedent to physical reality.

Moderate Realism (In Re), by contrast, suggests that such universals do exist, but are embodied and immanent within concrete objects themselves. From this perspective, the equation 20+20+20+7=67 is real, but it only exists because we can observe three instances of "20" joining with a "7" to form "67" within reality.

Finally, Nominalism (Post Rem) asserts that universals do not exist in reality at all. To a nominalist, numbers like "20," "7," or "67" are merely names, labels, or human constructs, devised only after we observe objects and group their similarities together for the sake of linguistic convenience. For a nominalist, Mathematics is invented, much like the rules of chess, and the equation 20+20+20+7=67 is simply a useful fiction within our language (because the individual/real/that numbers 1-9), employed to organize the perceptions that constitute reality.

When modern science emerged, it appeared that Nominalism might prevail, as it emphasized direct observation and induction, the practice of examining concrete phenomena to infer general rules, which gave rise to Empiricism. However, the plan backfired, and Platonic Realism re-emerged to trounce the nominalists through three formidable philosophical pillars: Scientific Realism, the Indispensability Argument, and the Philosophy of Pathematics itself.

Scientific Realism is the position that our best theories describe the world exactly as it is, asserting that entities we cannot see with the naked eye, such as electrons or magnetic fields, truly exist outside the human mind, thereby dismantling the nominalist notion that everything is merely a collection of "useful labels".

Closely linked to this, the Indispensability Argument delivers a checkmate to skeptics, since physics relies entirely on abstract mathematical entities to formulate its laws and make precise predictions, and because these theories function flawlessly in practice, we are logically compelled to accept that numbers and abstract equations possess a real, objective existence that precedes and remains independent of the reality they shape (Ante Rem).

Modern Philosophy of Mathematics demonstrates that when we calculate 20 + 20 + 20 + 7 = 67, we are not simply establishing a convenient linguistic convention, rather, we are uncovering a structural mathematics that was already at work within the cosmic fabric long before humanity ever came into existence.

Before you say anything about this, bear in mind that Mathematics proved the existence of the planet Neptune, Big Bang, Antimatter, Electromagnetic Waves, Black Holes, Gravitational Waves, the Higgs Boson, the Expansion of the Universe and other important themes of Modern Cosmology, all before Science discovered, analyzed and confirmed them with technology.

Super Mathematical AIs performing calculations impossible for humans will be the next step in the New Scientific Revolution.

One or Two/The Worlds are universal, so no. Nominalists only believe that they exist as separate individuals, although they don't say that the individual view is absolute, only God's (at least not pro-radicals), if they did that they would be solipsists.

I can grant platonism being a useful framework to understand mathematics and to a certain extant physics, but the relevent universals talked about in OP's video were concepts like "justice", "goodness" and "human nature" and in regards to those Platonism is a less parcimonious explanation than nominalism.

>but the relevent universals talked about in OP's video were concepts like "justice", "goodness" and "human nature" and in regards to those Platonism is a less parcimonious explanation than nominalism

Buddhism is one of the few nominalist religions that exist and and their criticism of Platonism, if there were one, would be that if real and immutable universals existed, as in Plato or Christianity, they would also be impermanent in our world or have essences beyond mere resemblance which can be changed or reimagined since the time and humans modify nature, themselves, and their own minds exist.

However, the forms of the real world are not impermanent like those in the world of ideals and justice, goodness, and human nature, because they depend on the human version/mind, which today views them more through the lens of post-nominalist Natural Law, have changed and will always change being permanent like nature over all time (and since they no longer depend on divine origin/God, they are not in fact valuable enough to be treated as absolute and immutable truths that cannot be violated because of the Social Contract, which, as we know, never existed as a historical/real event thanks to the modern archaeohistory of the Neolithic Revolution).

Only in a world superior to ours can such forms/impermanence exist, and Christianity places them within/alongside the world because of the Theology of Man Created in the Likeness of God, Original Sin, Jesus as God who became Man and Old and New Flesh aka Glorified Body.

There's a lot of them in around Iran and Turkey. Just because someone adopts Islam doesn't suddenly mean they stop being gay. Lots of screwing boys, drinking when no one is looking, getting high when no one is looking. Freud theorized in Civilization And Its Discontents that society, in order to be "civilized" must have the ability to deter certain behaviors in the individual populace. Unfortunately this has the side effect of inducing collective neurosis.
