Turkey is part of NATO and 50 non-European countries (excluding Canada, Australia and New Zealand) are part of the Commonwealth and yet are not part of the West.

The trio of economically prosperous, militarily docile, stable, culturally influential and above all well functioning East Asian democracies are close enough, just like Latvia, Bulgaria or Greece.
