Pros of sola scriptura:>Ad fontes>Becomes the ultimate check and balance>Encourages doctrinal literacyCons of sola scriptura>Reduces the truth of Christianity to a collection of writings>These said writings have a huge variety of interpretations behind them>There have historically been disagreements on which of these writings are even scripture So yeah sola scriptura is good in a way, because it gives the ultimate standard for doctrinal truth that everyone needs to follow and also ensures continuity with the original teachings of the religion as opposed to later accretions. At the same time Christianity predates the Bible and even if the Bible was false it doesn't necessarily follow that Christianity is false or even that Jesus isn't divine, people believed in Jesus before everyone could agree what scripture was and Christianity encompasses so much more than just its scriptures, so sola scriptura may also be a bit too reductive in that sense. It has pros. It has cons. But that's my 2 cents. :p
>>18752738>>Reduces the truth of Christianity to a collection of writingsCan't we ultimately say that's what the traditions are as well?
>>18752738>Reduces the truth of Christianity to a collection of writingsWhat is Christianity supposed to be besides God's word? I mean, what are we supposed to know about it that we aren't told by the Lord?>These said writings have a huge variety of interpretations behind themWho care? The Bible told us that there will always be many false teachers and that the vast majority of people are going to hell. >There have historically been disagreements on which of these writings are even scriptureGood thing Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth.>At the same time Christianity predates the BibleNope. New Testament Christianity began with the shedding of Jesus' blood on the cross. God's word has always existed. >and even if the Bible was false it doesn't necessarily follow that Christianity is false or even that Jesus isn't divine, Huh? What a strange hypothetical to bring up. It almost sounds like you're trying to hedge against your own lack of faith. Like>Someone might show me something in the Bible that's not true so I need to think up outs!!!If someone shows you something false in the Bible you need to get rid of it and get a King James.>people believed in Jesus before everyone could agree what scripture was You already said that not everyone agrees.>Christianity encompasses so much more than just its scriptures,For example?
>>18752738“The Bible but because Roman Catholics made us into Protestants we speak everything in Latin and have our own Latin Catechism”That’s why they calling you guys larps. I’m a Baptist and although I have nothing against sola, because I encountered it as a wow guild back in cata, we just speak American and go “yeah I believe the king James all sixty six books,” and sometimes “no apocrypha.” It just works. Will never grow tired of the story of Jesus or his blood he shed on the cross for our sins as literally God in the flesh. You realize He could have set up His kingdom on earth right then and there and lived in pleasure and immortality on earth however he wanted? I’m still reading the Bible despite what the posters on the board saying that they got tired of it. I’ve read it just like they said, like over five times over, I just read it in different ways. Every morning I have verses of the day or I get it fed to me on Sunday morning church which also comes with a weekly verse sometimes more than one. The Bible actually doesn’t return void and I notice when God surrounds my day around a verse which helps me see by faith. But even so I have been staying up late playing Elden Ring video games during family birthday season and already went through Hellpoint (mouse+kb + local area network) like the old days without internet. Zero lag although those games have their own lag due to being built for internet. Which goes to show that if we had a world in which we lived where everything was perfect and designed for us to live this way, things would be so much better. But as it is we all have to live in a world like this where everything is designed for the most popular use and that means we are doing things not as efficient as we could be. And sometimes it’s very inefficient or just filled with game breaking bugs.
When Martin Luther King Jr said I have a dream that one day people will be judged by their character and not their color of skin, he was talking about black people but also everybody. And I thought that he meant that blacks, Mexicans, Indians, etc every race and color , especially dark people, would be good computer programmers and not break society. But every time a computer program update happens to my favorite programs, somebody actually breaks it. And I go on the internet and look at their code, and it seems that someone intentionally left it broke by one variable missing or some other typo or some such. And I am left to wonder why the world intentionally runs it this way. Who are they persecuting? Well the Bible says who they are persecuting. They are persecuting those who are peaceful, quiet, and non social because the world values the powerful, social in the world who are friends to the world. The ones who go to the local club cool social hangout and design a plan to make everyone else follow them on social media. Even the church. It’s about that type of people vs. the other type of people. The Grackles > Dove war. Goats vs. Sheep war. The sheep can’t win obviously. That’s why they have a shepherd. Me and my brother play Elden Ring on seamless coop’s old beta mod because the mod authors moved it over to online only for the expansion pack. We also use open broadcast software to livestream each other’s screens to each other so we can have two monitors to know each other’s whereabouts. This is done as inefficiently as possible apparently also because none of this was even designed for this. It’s just how we are using it and it works. When we beat Elden ring with all of the same stuff, him a warrior and me a prophet with holy damage, healing, and buffs only with the Erd tree seal, we got every ending of the game and ended it with Ranni. However, tons of game breaking bugs are throughout the game. Especially with the old beta mod. Better than WoW!
>>18752738cons of any scriptura:you become brainwashed with the cursed schizobabble of dark hell-spawned demons from the middle east which turns you into an npc until your ego fades away and you die
>>18753062>What is Christianity supposed to be besides God's word?Faith working through love. >For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love (Galatians 5:6).
>>18752738How does that work? Are all the people paul's letters were addressed to in hell? Paul didn't read the gospels, so is he in hell? Why are his writings scripture if that's the case?
>>18752738Every doctrine has its pros and cons OP.
>>18753984>Faith working through love.Faith in what?
On the other hand, if the Pope suddenly decided circumcision is back on the table - you'd have to do it
>>18754007Not OP, Where did you even get Paul? Of course Paul knew what the gospels said. He would have had direct access to them from his meeting with Jesu Christ. It was real and I believe he really came to him and spoke to him as the outlining that Paul’s letters gave to Christians writes th New Testament. The gospels is not the NT, it’s how we got the New Covenant. The New Covenant is then defined after the gospels, slowly with Acts and Romans, and then it starts hitting into high gear after that.>>18754892No, the council of Trent (which means Three, from Tridentum), actually refers to God having already casted true Christian’s sins into the depths of the sea which is found in Micah, but by the new covenant from Jesus Christ’s blood entering the ark in Heaven. Micah comes from Michael, which means the prince who stands up in the end against Satan the great accuser and liar. All Christians who trusted in Jesus Christ to be saved are saved. It doesn’t require your church and pope. Satan becomes a deep sea creature trying to dig up only some type of Christian’s sins as th pope, and this has incredible likeness to the Roman Catholic Church in dark souls video games like the Cathedral of the Abyss and Mary statues crying everywhere. Or if that’s too hardcore and dark for you, then more like legend of Zelda and the church is empty and isn’t even a safe place for the princess. Tridentum speaks of the power to control the sea, and its depths, and storms. It refers to above, on, and below the earth as even god of the underworlds used to wield a trident. The council of Trent tried to claim that transubstantiation is a mandatory doctrine for all Christians but Jesus said to believe it is his body and blood, not to believe it has magical powers that transforms, creating divisions in belief with “magic councils” trying to argue with the literal Word of God, when we know that Jesus Christ is the only person who has forgiveness of sins. Even freely.
>>18754774Faith in Christ and His teachings.
It’s shed in remembrance of Him dying on the cross for the world’s sins. Not about whether it has magic powers or not. The focus is on your relationship with Jesus, not on whether he is God or not. The true believer has already passed the debate room far outside the gates of Heaven and already is praying to God believing and knowing He is. Only the devil is trying to pull people from going into Heaven with trite like that we need terms like trannysubstantiation.

>>18752738 >encourages doctrinal literacythat's good, but one of the problems with Protestantism, and something that was made even more problematic with the Enlightenment, is this idea that salvation comes through reason and literacy. But the truth is that salvation is a spiritual fulfillment that involves a load of emotionally charged realizations. You are not going to be saved by memorizing the Bible, but rather by understanding it and living it.That's why Protestantism has failed so miserably, because they investigate the mystery of God through Western reason and the celebration of a text instead of Holy Tradition. Catholicism and Orthodoxy understand the Bible as a testament of things that happened during Jesus's physical existence, and they accept that the end of His ministry isn't the end of Christianity. God has been shown through holy people and holy acts outside the biblical records, but since Protestants are so schizophrenic, they will shame you for believing that is possible
>>18754940The gospels were written after paul died, he couldn't have read the bible.

>>18755166No, but I bet you have problems with spiritual discernment with your life which is why you run from it with fear and loathing and ignorance.>>18755345Actually, Paul would have had direct access with Jesus Christ. You don’t know what you are talking about. Jesus Christ says it is better (more blessed) to have believed and not seen, than to have seen. Paul lived and saw Jesus. This is the traditional King James Version Word of God as taught by Christians. If you are rejecting that then you aren’t even a Protestant and just posting and wasting everyone’s time in the thread.>>18755803No, it had all 66 books, plus Apocrypha. The king James was always released with the Bible even the 1611 version. It contained apocrypha as added on. It took 200 years for the kjv to be released without apocrypha, but it was Always 66 books. Stick the Ethiopian Bible all 88 or something books up your ass please. That’s the one you really want to read, I can tell.
>>18755341“Understanding the Bible and living it”Okay…I’m not Protestant btw.“Btw, I’m talking about keeping traditions of men and not the ones of God, by performing sacraments and attending mass. The ones we identified as mandatory at the council of Trent. Spirituality is actually just performing mundane ritual traditions by sight and not living by faith every day. Why can’t you see how fun wearing a dress is and living at the big cathedral is???”Oh, that’s what you meant by understanding it, I was actually believing you were onto something for a second about Protestants. You lost everyone at needing traditional Catholic dogma rituals which is actually just satanic Jews and Romans trying to control people and focus the church on worldly things. It is actually a plus that Protestants would read and hear the kjv bible. Memorizing it is not the same but still 100% superior to attending a catholic mass to eat wafers in juice.
