True happiness lies in the senses, and virtue gratifies none of them

No. The meaning of life is defined through virtues. Chasing happiness is not the same as pursuit of virtue.

Your pic just proves OP's point. It stimulates the senses and produces happiness before any virtue can even be defined.

>It stimulates the senses and produces happiness before any virtue can even be defined
Sensory stimulation doesn't necessarily produce happiness. Your senses can be stimulated in more ways that produce anything but happiness, actually. You should think about 'harmony' instead of happiness.

My pic is Apollo Musagetes, leader of the Muses, who plays the golden lyre on Mount Parnassus. The ancients taught that his music was the audible expression of the same mathematical harmony that governs the orbits of the planets, the structure of the human soul, and the proportions of all created things. Music, in the ancient understanding, was the voice of the cosmos itself.

The ancients realized the same ratios that produce beautiful intervals in music also produce beautiful forms in geometry, beautiful proportions in architecture, and beautiful orbits in the heavens. The ratio 2:1 produces the octave in music and the double-circle in geometry. The ratio 3:2 produces the fifth in music and the sesquialtera proportion in architecture. The ratio 4:3 produces the fourth in music and the epitritic proportion in visual harmony. The same mathematics underlies all beauty, in every domain. The cosmos is a single harmonious composition.

This is what Pythagoreans believed: Music is not entertainment. Music is not mere art. Music is the structural principle of existence. When you hear a beautiful song, you're hearing a fragment of the same harmony that holds the planets in orbit and the soul in coherence. The pleasure you feel is the pleasure of recognition: your own internal harmony resonating with the harmony of the cosmos. That experience is something deeper than 'happiness', and it doesn't manifest through mere sensory stimulation.

But all that math and geometry only becomes beautiful when processed by the senses, when it's humanized and you feel "harmonious" to the point of redefining happiness as a deeper experience. There was no such feeling of harmony before beholding the object of admiration, no extraordinary beauty to invoke that feeling. At least not enough for the experience you would, moments later, distinguish from happiness to emerge. The truth is then revealed in the ugly, the absence of that beauty, which causes the feeling of disharmony, and consequently how something which exists in a harmonious universe could be deprived of harmony in any capacity, to the point of violating the structural principle of existence just by existing. Our belief in a world intrinsically beautiful founded on phantasmagoric virtues falls apart with our inability to confirm the reality of an objective ugliness. If all things are set in motion by the same laws that determine proportions and orbits, then all things are necessarily equally harminous, with no varying degrees of beauty, and nothing truly ugly left to differentiate it, apart from our own subjective sensorial perceptions.

Way to misinterpret the other Anton's point. Everything else you said is plebbit trivia.

Odd that de Sade of all people wrote the Isle of Tamoe (Tamorae, for trve pvtricvns) then said this. Virtue does gratify some senses. It can be, at least.

>But all that math and geometry only becomes beautiful when processed by the senses
What senses process math then? Explain that process and how you produce happiness from it. I'd like to hear your explanation.
>when it's humanized and you feel "harmonious"
No that's not how it works at all. Harmony is a natural virtue that can be observed and appreciated all throughout the universe. There is virtue in growth and transformation which nature has in abundance, regardless if we humanize it or not. Nature takes its course no matter how we feel about it.
>There was no such feeling of harmony before beholding the object of admiration, no extraordinary beauty to invoke that feeling
Harmony exists and functions in nature regardless if there is an observer to examine and appreciate it. It's a characteristic of nature itself. The world keeps spinning even when you're not around to see it.

Luke 11:13-32. Sense is fleeting sand that is swiftly washed away, it will always disappoint, and lead one into greater misery. True happiness comes from from knowing the eternal Lord, this happiness endures even the greatest sorrows, for it requires nothing more.

That should be Luke 12*

Hold on, let me get the AI overview for you.

Mathematical processing does not rely on a single specialized "math organ." Instead, the human brain processes math by combining standard physical senses with distributed neural networks across both hemispheres.

Primary Senses Involved in Math

• Vision (Sight): Used to read numerals, symbols, geometric shapes, graphs, and number lines. Visual networks help map spatial dimensions and patterns.
• Hearing (Auditory): Used to process spoken numbers, rhythm, counting sequences, and verbalized word problems.
• Touch and Kinesthetic (Tactile / Movement): Used in physical manipulation (counting blocks, finger-counting, using geometric models, and board work) to ground abstract quantities into physical reality.

Internal and Cognitive "Senses"

• Number Sense (Quantification): An innate perceptual capacity—located partly in the parietal and cerebellar brain regions—that allows humans and infants to subitize (instantly recognize small quantities) and compare magnitudes without formal schooling.
• Spatial Sense: The ability to visualize and manipulate objects, lines, and volumes mentally.
• Language & Grammar: Shared neural machinery in the prefrontal and temporal lobes helps connect symbols, syntax, and logical rules to numerical operations.

Where the Brain Processes Math

Unlike language processing (which heavily favors the left temporal lobe), mathematical reasoning is widespread across the brain. It engages the parietal lobe (number magnitude and spatial layout), frontal and prefrontal lobes (working memory, planning, and executive control), occipital lobe (visual recognition), temporal lobe, and the cerebellum (sequencing and rhythm).
By engaging multiple sensory modalities—seeing, hearing, touching, and moving—the brain builds stronger, more concrete connections for abstract mathematical concepts.

Nope. Harmony is a human perception. Virtues are relative to man. What exists independently and can be observed is patterns. That's why I asked you about disharmony and how it relates to ugliness, but you didn't address the question in your reply.
